rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Pulling this over to the new post. I don't think I have the focus and commitment to lord over a meme like that, but does anyone else think it's a good idea for encouraging mingling and activity and new blood? Enough to try picking it up, maybe.

I'm fairly new to the DR, at least in that I never actively played there before the move to DW, and I'd love to participate in something like that! I definitely couldn't run it, though. I just lurk around and play primarily DGM muses that I'm finally getting the guts to test out in my spare time.

I'd like to think that this could be a good thing, but maybe I'm just cynical. I imagine that in practice, it's just going to be the same people coming in and pissing on everything and circle-jerking and making things even *more* cliquey.

There's a lot of highlandering that happens in this fandom, I think. It's not often called that, but there's a huge attitude that certain players don't just play their character but *are* their character or are the only one who can play the character *right*, and they're stupidly hostile to anyone else who might step up to play the same character. I think the people who do it always think they're being subtle, but they're really not.

So I guess I'd wonder how you'd deal with that on something like a mingle meme because I just imagine it being a hot mess, sorry to say.

I was thinking the meme itself would extend beyond just RP to the fandom in general, but be a more effective tool to discuss DGM DR very publicly as opposed to the fandom community. It could be used for general discussion, organization, fandom mediums (cosplay, fanart, fanfic), advertizing, etc. Something very fast and loose--and probably allow anon?

But obviously this would need more active regulation than the anon meme, which is why I'm not stepping up to the plate to run it. It'd need a definite dedication to work.

I have to admit that I don't see a lot of highlandering (circlejerking, yes, but I don't consider that inherently bad and maybe just obnoxious in excess. Clique isn't quite the same), but I hardly reach to every circle so idk what other ones are like.

After that thread I decided I would have a go at making a fandom meme for DGM. I haven't made it yet, but I'm intending to. I guess I'll advertise on the LJ and DW D.Gray-man comms if I'm allowed to, maybe in a few other places. It'd be helpful if people could pass the links around, when it's made.

I don't think it would take much moderation. DGM doesn't have the sort of huge fandom that would cause problems like that. That's almost the problem: how the fandom's shrinking. If it gets popular I might need an extra mod, but that's in the wishful thinking category right now. (More likely is that the meme would die a swift death from inactivity!) If it goes that well, it should be easy enough to get an extra mod. I don't think the meme would survive well as a roleplaying only meme: what would really be needed is general fandom content, and that will naturally be good for DGM roleplaying too.

My plans so far:
Sensible rules.
General fandom discussion, probably divided up by headers for some things. Such as fan art, fanfic, advertising, chapter discussions, roleplaying, etc.
It would allow both anon and being logged in.

The idea would be to have a comfortable fandom space for DGM fans. Moderation would be kept to the minimum needed for proper running of the meme, but there would be a "don't be too much of an arsehole" rule applied at mod discretion.

What else would you like to see?/What suggestions do you have?

I think that sounds good! Basically what I said to the above anon (and the concerns of clicks I don't think will be as noticeable with a general fandom community and not just the RP scene). I can help spread it around, at least, and I'd imagine affiliating with the main communities shouldn't be a problem. I also like the idea of categories for common sections and using the rest of the pages for stray content.

As for suggestions I don't have any. But you could be flexible with it's build as it's built and used to see what you do and don't need.

Thanks! And yeah, I expect the meme's needs would become apparent as time went on.

I think I'll go with the categories thing. It'd keep things neater and easier to use.
