High. Legally blind here (much the same way Kenji is, actually). Have to use special tools on the computer and everything. Looking the wrong way jokes? I find them funny. Maybe not every blind person will find them funny. But as far as humor goes, it's far from tasteless.

So, I need to ask, are you also blind? Because if you're not, please stop being offended on my behalf and don't speak over us. If a blind person is bothered, let THEM speak up and apologies be made.

I'm blind in one eye and have really shit vision in the other. I'm fine with jokes, dumb puns or whatever, but my problem comes in when people start making jokes about people with disabilities being incapable of things they're actually quite capable of. Which I feel like this falls under.

Brochan, it was a legit misfire. Be mad at Shizune-mun and me, if anyone, for making a joke out of it, but don't make Lilly-mun up there feel bad for just making a mistake.

That being said, I'm going to second the Shizune player's sentiments. I do apologize for the joke, and yes, the tastefulness of these kind of things are questionable. That being said, if KS RPers in general are doing something you feel is a misrepresentation of any given disability, then please contact them.

We're all trying to handle this with the same level of sensitivity, understanding, and yes sometimes even humor that our source canon does (at least I certainly hope we are). If we ever fall short of that, I would hope that my fellow players and I will be willing to listen and educate ourselves to do better.

I can only speak for blindness, (and even then not complete blindness) since I... well, have never interacted with too many people with any other disabilities. And it's not like I'm the spokesman for all people with visual impairments, forever. It's just...

Like I said up there, my problem comes in when people make jokes about people being incapable of things they're capable of. Humor is fine by me, sometimes it's the only way of dealing with a shitty situation, and it's not like I've never made a joke at my own expense. It's just... before you make a joke, ask yourself "does this joke actually make any sense? Or is it just dumb "people with disabilities are all incapable of functioning in society" shit?" The latter is a bit of an exaggeration for this particular joke, but it still inspired similar feelings in me.

I'm rambling a bit, but you understand what I'm trying to say here, right? I've got no intention of becoming some sort of guardhound, ever vigilant for the slightest inaccuracy in a portrayal. I just expect a bit of tact.

Yanno, that sounds perfectly fair. I getcha. I will definitely keep an eye out, especially if/when I begin playing Lilly (assuming I ever get her icons set up).

I'm sorry, anon, but I wasn't laughing, and the misfire was completely unintentional. Like I said, I was commenting from my phone and missed the original thread.

Nah, nah. Like I said up there, I was just commenting so I didn't have to make two separate comments.

I haven't read any of your RPing so I can't comment on that but I will say this. Research, research, research, research. Then research some more. If you think you might not have done enough research? Research. Iunno if you have or not like I said I haven't read any, but that's a good tip for writing anything you haven't personally experienced, not just blindness. Also research.

Sorry, I actually thought the joke was intentional.

Okay, wait, hold on. What I meant to say is, I never really thought of it as a joke against blind people as much as it was a joke about a roleplayer misfiring(? wasn't really sure at the time the comment was posted) with a blind character. I admit that my sense of humor can come out as crass and while I'm okay with laughing at a lot of things, some people aren't.

I apologize for causing trouble to all those involved with this thread. I'll make sure to keep myself in check but if ever you find me doing something offensive, feel free to hit me up on an HMD post (lemme make one right now, anon enabled and IP logging off) or anywhere you could find me. I'll promise to listen to what you have to say, no matter how you say it, put it into consideration, and if soever I don't agree with your points or opinion or if soever I find myself confused with it, put it up for a discussion.
