Rundown:
rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.
Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter
Rules:
Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Non-RP related, but I'm desperate
(Anonymous) 2012-05-29 09:27 am (UTC)(link)Is it okay to lie and only put down those two jobs I've been laid off for? Also, anyone have tips for getting hired at minimum wage jobs? I don't understand why I'm not getting call-backs, I'm bilingual and that's really needed at the moment around here.
Re: Non-RP related, but I'm desperate
(Anonymous) 2012-05-29 10:10 am (UTC)(link)I can't tell if what you're saying is that you think you made more money in your two most recent jobs than in what you're applying for now, and you think that's why you're not being called back. If that's the case, then only listing those two jobs probably isn't going to be a fix.
Personally, I'd say that leaving off some jobs that you held only briefly a long time ago wouldn't be a huge lie of omission.
As far as getting hired for minimum wage jobs, this may sound doofy, but...smile. I can't count the number of times that I've been in some shop and watched someone walk in and ask for a job application with this totally dead-eyed or timid manner, like they're embarrassed to be there. And you can just tell that no one in their right mind would hire someone like that. Why would you hire anyone who carries negativity and disinterest in with them through the front door?
So even if you've been at it all day and you're frustrated and disheartened, you still need to look and act like you're actually eager and enthusiastic, even just asking for the application form, I think.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-29 10:15 am (UTC)(link)I've been smiling as much as I can, every time I ask for an application and leave my resume. It's when I get home that I feel so defeated, because I've been applying for jobs for over a month now and nothing. It upsets me that back when I didn't need a job as desperate as now (I live on my own) I could land jobs no problem.
Thank you, Anon, your input helps a lot.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-29 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)I had to do a mad job scramble myself and walking into stores and asking can be so hard.
One bit of advice I can give you is to try re-applying to some places you applied for originally but may have not been accepted. Think about what your circumstances back then were-- have they changed? If so, they might want you this time around.
I just got a job at a place I applied to one year ago-- my circumstances had changed since then and I had more job-related experience this time, and that made all the difference.
Good luck, anon!
I really hope you can find something.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-29 10:24 am (UTC)(link)Yeah, that's the case. Minimum wage is $7.25 in this state, and I've made $17/$20 in my last two jobs. I'm afraid I've over-qualified because this were jobs at hospitals and clinics, so they're considered a 'professional' job, not entry like retail.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-29 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)Then basically don't include anything on an application that you don't include on an application unless the job specifies to put every position you've held for the last X number of years, like I had one job that wanted every job I've held in my life, complete with addresses and contact info and all. I'm 33, my first job was at 16, I've lived in three states as well and many of those places are no longer in business, fun times.
Also, try applying for any call centers in your area. Retail tends to try to understaff a lot and this is a slowish time of the year. A call center is going to be trying to hire on their folks for the holidays already and they tend to have more staffing and a lot of turnover. Also tends to pay better than retail. I'm making $11/hr at my current job, and don't even need to commute since it's work from home! Definitely far better than my last job that was retail, paid $7.90 an hour, had shit hours and worked me to the point of daily soreness all over even a year after starting.
