[D] Haa. Haa. Haa.

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

I don't care if it's some kind of staple of fourth wall, I've seen like ten posts all about people falling on their asses in Ice Path and it's already boring me. It was funny the first few posts but wore out faster than a joke on Tumblr.

Re: Fourth Wall!

(Anonymous) 2012-05-26 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
It's because the Ice Path is pretty much the worst place in Johto to suddenly get warped to.

I'm having a bit of fun with it, but I really hope after this they wait for the three year anniversary to do it again. It's just going to grow even more stale if we have it again in six months...

Honestly I am more exited to see what's going to happen after the 4th wall stuff.

The "everyone gets any Pokemon they want" thing is fucking retarded and always has been. The fact no one remembers after makes it pointless when it would be a way to get actual plot going, and it's just... ugh. I've never liked it in all my time here. There has to be a better way than making like a billion little events that might be fun in game canon into this pointless clusterfuck.

The Pokemon thing can be good when it's done right though.

It almost never has been except when it's just flat out ignored.

Envy getting ghost rushed was pretty good.
So was Souji's Wooper army
And Conner getting spammed by Jynx.

I did say almost. How about all that legendary spam we've had for years?

(Anonymous) 2012-05-26 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't see why anyone would have a problem with this. It's forth wall, craziness is going to happen. So why not legendarys.

That's always how fourth wall events have been, anon. There's never been a game (to my knowledge, and I've jumped in quite a few 4th wall events) where people remember anything after one of these. They're just a thing to have fun with and go crazy with your friends / random folks who aren't in game. If anything Route has the bonus of being able to drop your character off in whatever city or place you want them to be after it.

And wanting there to be plot involvement in a fourth wall event is just expecting the wrong kind of thing from this. If you don't like it, just go backtag intros from before it kicked in. I'm sure the new players / characters would love that.

We, not really? There have been plenty of games that let you keep your memories of it. The only requirement in being a fourth wall event is characters breaking in out of no where. I was in a game that did them like this and I can think of at least a few more - these have been going on for nearly a decade now. I think the no memories part is a much more recent fad.

Given that there was Rocket involvement causing it, I don't think so.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-26 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
They mean that's how fourth-wall events have always been at THIS game, anon.

We've had them in the past and they are always structured this way.

Re: Fourth Wall!

(Anonymous) 2012-05-26 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
They mentioned other games in their posts, actually?

I'm aware of how they are in this game and between lolgendaries and no memories the only real point seems in looking for potential castmates or getting powers back for a while, which still is weakened by the no memories thing.

ah, never mind, I misread!

Sorry!

Really? I've never been in or seen one that had memories completely in tact afterward. And I remember the very first fourth wall event ever to happen in a lj rp, and that didn't have people remember it. If anything it's been at best "a vivid dream that you can't quite recall" never something that you remember every detail of, since that can really fuck up some characters depending on who they meet or what they do.

Still, I don't think there's anything plot wise to gain from this. Even with Rocket involvement, it's not like any of the Rockets know the higher ups are the cause. Or even that what's bringing everyone to Johto is apparently in the Goldenrod Rocket base.

I mean I get what you're saying in that you wish there was, but fourth wall events really aren't a thing that should ever have plot relevance. They're just for fun, not something that should suddenly become a plot point.

I... also remember the first game that did it and iirc they always came out remembering, at least more than the nothing that is Route's waste of time event. It could at least be different once in a while if it's got to be so often.

I mean in regards to the Rockets took away three days?

Re: Fourth Wall!

(Anonymous) 2012-05-26 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It was the whole 'vivid dream' thing I mentioned for the first one, as I recall. So it wasn't a complete wipe or anything, just fuzzy to vivid details depending on the players choice... And it was a 'crack rp' so it didn't have a plot or anything. Still, regarding Route, I'd rather it just become a entirely anniversary only thing. I've never been fond of how often route does 4th wall events. It's kind of ruined the whole thing if they do it as often as they have been.

Oh, well. That makes more sense I suppose... Though that would have to involve something like only Rockets remembering or something like that I'd wager...

I've been in the game for every fourth wall event so far and I've always completely ignored the posts that just consist of "OMG [character] SUDDENLY HAS LEGENDARIES!!! isn't that totally wacky?!"

Using the setting and making silly things happen with Pokemon swarms or something is one thing if it's funny and creative, but without fail every time this event rolls around, there's a billion posts with nothing to them except SUDDENLY: ARCEUS.

I always enjoy these events outside of that, though.

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2012-05-26 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
This event in particular is bad because since it breaks the fourth wall and no one remembers, the idea is you have free reign to fuck around however you want.

Four fuck arounds straight is a little much for me.

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2012-05-26 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
... I agree that it's annoying, but how does that make THIS event particularly bad?

It's pretty much literally exactly the same as all the others- they ALL break the fourth wall and nobody remembers after.

Re: +1

(Anonymous) 2012-05-26 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
I'm saying it's ALWAYS been bad and perhaps repeating a bad event over and over makes it less fun every consecutive time?

I'm with the other anon. The stuff after this can't get here soon enough.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-26 07:27 am (UTC)(link)
It's one of the reasons I got tired of Fourth Wall events. After a while, even IC it stops being "what the fuck even happened" to "oh, we lost another three days. Huh." Route has them twice a year, iirc, whereas other games have them once a year if even that much. It doesn't sound like much more, but it's enough to make them feel a little stale after a while, imo.

Fourth Wall events aren't inherently bad, but when they happen semi-frequently...

(Anonymous) 2012-05-26 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
What do you call semi-frequently. They've only happened twice a year that was it and that was since the game started. So about 4.

It would be more of a problem if it was every month or so. This time there is talk of character protesting on the dream thing and ended up every place.
