Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Concerns?

Re: BUCKY BARNES

Going to have to agree and disagree with anon above. Avengers/Invaders is a hit-and-miss kind of thing. For older!Bucky it comes across as strange and out of character, but it is a really good look at WWII!Bucky and how he fits in the Invaders (which meshes well with Brubaker's portrayal in Captain America and Captain America and Bucky since Brubaker is essentially Word of God when it comes to Bucky). No worse than Bendis' at times very odd portrayal of older!Bucky in New Avengers, though. It's perfectly possible to read it and even enjoy it while acknowledging not all of it is that good/accurate. WWII!Bucky is one of the characters that gets handled fairly well up until the end (which really becomes a question of future affecting the past and we'll never know the answer, so your mileage may vary).

I will agree that Invaders Now! is definitely not that great. Not the worst I've read, but...yeah, nothing really worth reading for more than curiosity's sake. The art makes it even less worth it. Avengers/Invaders at least has pretty art to keep you interested, in my opinion. IN is also never brought up again canonically so you can easily skip it and not lose out. A/I on the otherhand does have implications for Bucky's character and events leading to him becoming the Winter Soldier, depending on how you look at the ending. You can still skip it and/or read it later if you want without losing anything to the experience of reading everything else, though.

If you want more WWII!Bucky, read the Young Allies 70th Anniversary Special Issue and the Captain America: Forever Allies mini (4 issues). Both are very cute flashback stories about the Young Allies team Bucky was a part of with Toro during WWII while the big hitters in the Invaders were off on other missions, with some Bucky!Cap thrown in. The other team they were on together, the Kid Commandos unfortunately does not have any modern-day retellings so you'll have to look at The Invaders series #27-28, #38-39 for them.

For post-WS, pre-Bucky!Cap, check out Wolverine #38-40 and Wolverine Origins #15, #17-20, #23, and #25. These all occur within the year that Bucky's MIA pre-Steve's death (so read them before Captain America v5 #25), with the exception of WO #17-20 which is post Steve's death, but primarily works as a flashback arc to WWII and again, fits in with Brubaker's revisioning of Bucky's role during the war and as Steve's partner.

Also for a note: Winter Soldier: Winter Kills occurs during the big Civil War event, so read it after the Captain America "Winter Soldier" arc and all of the Wolverine issues, but BEFORE issue #25 of Captain America v5 and you won't get confused. The Young Allies issues I recommended all take place in "present" time probably half way through Bucky's run as Captain America so you can read those anytime during then.

Then lastly, I'll bring up the Captain America Corps mini (5 issues) which occurs chronologically toward the end of Bucky's run as Captain America. If you read it directly after Captain America #611 and it'll make sense on how it fits into things. It's not the most important story, but it can be an entertaining read. It also shows the Captain America legacy extending beyond Captain America, if you're interested in that.

And this looks a lot more jumbled and convoluted than I intended so I do apologize.
