they're really not that bad as mods, all things considered

The worst I've ever seen them do is pace their plots poorly and leave the Rockets high and dry for a long time (which they're now working on on an ongoing basis). This is usually what I see get brought up when it comes to people talking about the mods needing to work to "restore the players' faith".

The mods basically abandoned the game for a few months and also have a really bad habit of making promises that never come to fruition. Sure there are worse mods but being more negative than another negative still leaves you with a negative.

Yeah, I honestly think the mods biggest failing is that they just kind of... didn't do anything for a good period of time. They ran the usual modly duties but there was a huge lull where they could have been improving the game but they just sat back and let us do our own thing.

Which resulted in us losing quite a few good players around the DW move.

Though now some of them are coming back / considering coming back, so it might be a sign of things looking up?

... that or a sign the games they all went running to after they left Route were way worse.

Is there something wrong with doing your own thing in RP? One of my games is largely player plot driven and I enjoy it because it gives us the freedom to do what we want. It doesn't sound like they abandoned, just sat back.

Nope. Nothing wrong with that, but during the major lull, things more or less did feel abandoned, at least on the Rocket side. There hasn't always been the structure or resources we have now, and a lot of players sort of drifted around aimlessly during that time.

Don't think that's the period the above person was talking about though since players that left because of that would have all left long before Release 88.

Not exactly, but it got to a point where the game felt really empty. No events, horrible Rocket handling, not responding to a lot and so on.

Nope, there's nothing wrong with it! That's not what I meant, really. I meant they just sat... too far back? Like one head mod stepped down, one helper mod dropped, and then things just kind of got really quiet on the mod front...

It wasn't abandoned, so much as they just kind of... didn't do anything for awhile? It wasn't awful or horrible in any way, it's just a good few months of missed time where they could have been tweaking the things that are being brought up now, is what I'm saying. Some of the stuff being brought up was brought up before all the LJ crazyness, so it's just a really missed opportunity that I think made some players really doubt them.

Still, on that front, things are looking a lot better with the new mods hired on. I'm quite hopeful that we won't ever suffer a repeat of that.
