Even 500 words would be overly short, but I grasp your intent here. Still, what about those characters whose original histories are highly complex in the first place? Would they be forced to simplify them even if important details got lost in translation? On the other hand, a word maximum long enough to properly account for characters with complex histories can give people who want to play characters with simpler histories the impression that they "should" pad things out to get as close to it as possible as well.

An original universe would probably be best for reasons that other anons have stated, though obvious inspiration is no issue to my mind (especially if you draw from three or so sources). Ultimately, though, the most important thing is the ability to account for different types of characters. I play a character whose particular sorts of needs tend to be overlooked in games -- and in canon universes generally, really.

Is there an already existing store of Batman: The Brave and the Bold icons?

Wow, anon. This is one of the most deeply mean-spirited things I've seen people say on here, and a prime example of going anon to avoid consequences for being an asshole.

Have to say, I'm pretty glad you didn't reserve too, if this is an example of things you think are okay to say about someone else.

I think Exsilly is actually one of the friendliest, maybe the friendliest, LJ/DW RPs I've ever been in.

Full disclosure, I agree with the anon who said there isn't enough going on in this game. I also agree with the anons who wanted the apps unscreened or some way to see what apps had been submitted. I am not going to say this game is perfect.

BUT

- it is really, really friendly
- the head mod (Haley) is really, really open to improvement and also really friendly
- the other mod and helper mod are pretty inactive which has not helped, idk whether they are going to step up and help (one of them is Haley's gf, I doubt it would be easy to fire your gf from a mod team) but I do know that already Haley has posted a call for people to submit apps for a plot mod and a helper mod position
- Gonsai is none of the above people, is not even in the game, and aside from this thread in rpanons this weekend the only time I see Exsilly show up in anoncomms is when people joke that Gonsai is the mod. It was funny for about 20 minutes and since then has gotten very stale.
- the setting is really detailed and as a result of this rpanons thread an Exsilium wiki is now starting so that players have a better sense of what is around to be worked with
- the OCs are the best thing about this game. No Mary Sues looking for love. Instead we have crazy manticores and juicebox-happy superpowered kids
- the players are another best thing about this game. Friend some of them on plurk when you join, they are very open to CR and willing to take crit

So yes this is not a perfect game and it is having some serious growing pains. But it's well worth giving a shot.

Don't pretend you disagree or that you haven't said worse things. It isn't mean spirited to admit that someone could benefit from therapy.

The one issue I see with games that revolve around canon powers to that degree is the big "what about people who don't have canon powers?" issue. I'd find it awkward to play an unpowered character in a game like the one you describe.

That sounds perfectly in-character for the opportunistic bastards, and gives plenty of room for potential backstabbings (on both ends!).

Other M has a lot of weird and outright contradictory information that'll be more trouble than it's worth to reconcile with the rest. Glad to hear that's out of the way.

Going further into NPC's: maybe the characters more structural to the setting (e.g. Ridley, who's mostly a force of destruction rather than a personality) should be mod controlled while the more personal characters can be picked up by players. Let Samus herself be a shadowy legend, like how she comes off to the galaxy at large.

I don't agree. And I don't think it's okay to say that flippantly, rudely and anon.

Of course telling someone they could benefit from therapy isn't always an insult. I've been there. I know sometimes you need someone to nudge you towards getting help. But using it to just dismiss someone doesn't sit right with me.

Yeah, that's pretty obnoxious and playercesty. One of the main heros of a canon should not be played by the same person who plays the main villain. And even if they apped before seeing Avengers, it's not like the cast of that move hasn't been advertised for months.

The issue with this is that you basically made it a Murder, Arson & Jaywalking scenario wherein all of the aforementioned traits going on were horrible things. If you were actually being genuine about the therapy/saying 'no' part, then I do appreciate the concern. My life has been on an upturn since I've begun to deal with these issues (and I wouldn't have opened a game if I thought I couldn't handle them at the same time) but I would really rather not say more on anoncomm because no1currs. Suffice to say, I'm not ignorant to these flaws and have turned to more private venues in order to address them so it might not look like there's been any progress.

While I'm willing to take the comments on me at face value, that still doesn't really excuse the rest of what you said. Thank you, and I'm sorry.

It wasn't intended as dismissive I just did not want to say more on her mental health because it is no one's business except hers. I wish the best for DJ and think she is a great person. Unfortunately I had to defriend her because seeing her situation was impacting mine and that's all I'll say about that. The stress of modding a game may be too much for her unless things have changed alot recently and that is what I was getting at about people not wanting to join.

it's hard to gauge Shepard's for obvious reasons, but I like renegade Sheps who don't automatically assume renegade means biggest asshole on the citadel. fightforthelost, cmrd_renegade are two of my faves.

I am glad to hear things are getting better for you but several people still have doubts about your ability to handle being a mod safely and maintain the game. I tried to enable castmates to app with me and that is one reason they wouldn't. You have no reason to apologize and I sincerely hope we're all wrong.

Again, thank you for your honesty about all of this. I have no way to prove myself except to keep moving forward the way I've been going, so I hope that you might one day change your opinion if you're willing to give me the second chance once I've earned it.

I'll probably stop replying soon since we're starting to tread water in the discussion, but you've been pleasantly civil for at least this branch of it (seeing as I have no idea when you entered). So, props to you for focusing on the matter that was brought up. I mean this genuinely; I was kind of expecting deflections and insistence in another direction like I've seen happen before and just wanted to let you know it was noticed and appreciated.
