Rundown: rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

in a wholly original setting, you are technically going to have to explain every facet - location, relevant history, whatever magic or monsters or unique twists you're going to have, important NPCs, etc - but ime you don't need a five page essay on each. I think where mods get crit for being too long is when they get caught up lovingly describing visuals, and lbr I get it. I love describing things when I write fic. it's easy to get so deep into it you don't realize how much of that word vomit is useless to players. some things can indeed be distilled down to 1-2 sentences or quick bullet points.

I don't have handy examples bc I haven't been in a game for a year and idk what the newer games are doing. but many moons ago I'd always scroll past the setting to see what questions are asked by players, it really shows where the most basic of info was utterly missing. like, if someone has to ask "what kind of shops are in the town square" because the description didn't include that info, or the mod thought everyone would just know what kinds of shops should line the town square of a New England cozy town. the answer can still be a list of five or six examples, not paragraphs on each and the background of the shopkeepers.
