let me rephrase. characters who are fucked up, traumatized, annoying, have complicated motives, do and say opposite things, go against standard morality, make bad choices, are thin-skinned and reactive, violent, closed-off, abusive and/or pathetic, are (personally!) my favourite to play off in dwrp (for me personally, in my opinion!)

since i mostly rp ships, i would also say they are my favourite to ship with.

this isn't gendered or aesthetic, one of my favourite characters to keep an eye out for at the moment is shauna shipman from yellowjackets and i have also enjoyed threading with many jinx arcanes.

i get that astarion was marketed to the edward cullen girlies but unlike, say, kylo ren, that's his deliberate mask and underneath he's yucky. and that's the appeal. to me.

nayrt but lmao bingo. as much as i love him i don't really feel like any of the astarions i've seen really capture the vibe he gives in game. sorry to the astarions out there.

i did try to pick him up because i figure i couldn't do any worse but the amount of attention i immediately got scared me off, especially since i was still trying to voice test because i don't normally play this type of character.

tbqh i don't know what the point of playing him strictly ic would be because of how badly people would react to it. i'll just always be sliiiightly uncomfortable with the way he's presented by most of his fans vs how the character actually is.

ayrt i don't want to draw attention to any specific person in this clusterfuck of a thread but there's at least one.

i do think probably it's harder to see the depths people are willing to sink their characters to on bakerstreet. i tend to woobify my own garbage shithead man when i'm playing with strangers after one pm that was like "your villain was very mean in this texting thread, are you secretly someone who hates me, the player?" also this is weak but sometimes it's hard enough getting tags with a nasty man that if strangers want to play a "redeeming the dark fuck prince" au for a dozen comments of smut i'm happy to serve. it's just memes.

i play him and yeah, i'm probably one of the astarions that suck, what can you do. but i do sand the edges off when playing with strangers because i have had people get upset with me about negative cr before, and i wouldn't be surprised if other people who play him (or similar characters) do too, considering how contentious negative cr can be on this site.

It’s a catch 22, isn’t it? If you played Astarion like the villainous prick he really is, you’ll get drama from all the other rpers who can’t separate ic/ooc.

Let’s not pretend everyone is a functioning and mature adult in this hobby despite the median age being 34. The problem isn’t the Astarion rpers, the problem is the people in this hobby. Hell, do we not see all the drama just in RPanons alone?
