Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not post personal information. This includes but is not limited to full names, addresses, phone numbers and so on.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.
Do not solicit money, Dreamwidth points, or other currency unless you are offering a good or service in return.

i just don't find edgelord murder hobos very interesting. they remind me of the power fantasy characters i used to encounter back when i did supernatural monster rp in a now-dead mmo. like oh, your guy's a psychopath and a cannibal and a cult leader? AND he has a cool monster transformation power because his daddy's a god? groundbreaking...

good for you, but i love dark urges and a few i really liked don't come around anymore because of people being mean about malleable protags

Have you encountered many people playing durge as a murder hobo? Not saying it doesn't happen, just haven't come across it myself.

for the most part yes, though not to the extent that's possible in the game obv because you can't murder every character you encounter in a collaborative writing hobby. most of the durges i've come across have been portrayed as barely resisting the urge or trying to resist but failing. several have had the slayer form, which iirc is only obtainable in a non-resisting playthrough. i haven't ever come across anyone playing from the opposite extreme, i.e. full on redeemed goody two shoes durge. not saying that take on the character is any "better" (actually i could see it being very obnoxious if done poorly), but it does not seem to be the norm in my experience.

new da -

you can get the slayer form if you're resisting. the two ways to get the slayer form are to kill isobel in act 2, and accept being bhaal's chosen in act 3. there is no evil prerequisite for getting it in act 2, you can have been good the entire time, and it's a viable good path choice if durge decides isobel's death is worth it to spare one of their companions, because durge gets told that it's either her or a companion (highest approval or your romance partner if you have one). you can then go on to continue to make good/resisting choices, and lose the slayer form when you reject bhaal. if you want to *keep* the slayer form you do have to accept bhaal in act 3 and be explicitly evil though yes.

you can also get it by accidentally letting isobel die

not like i did that or anything :(

rip isobel :(

i usually skip that fight to be honest, it's not required and it doesn't give much xp...

not to split hairs but the choice isn't between (potentially) killing your companion vs killing isobel, it's between potentially killing your companion vs killing isobel *and everyone else at the inn by extension.* even if durge isn't fully embracing the whole murder scion thing it's still a selfish/evil choice, and by making it they're capitulating to bhaal's plans for them, even they decide to resist later.

nope, you can kill her after most of the npcs have moved to moonrise and isobel is mostly alone at the inn. it's not an exploit either, if you've ignored isobel then the butler shows up at the bridge to moonrise to tell durge to go back and kill her now while she's alone.

dammon and the other merchant character will always be at the inn even if you've done literally everything in act 2 but the final assault on moonrise. so that's 3 people the absolute minimum, which most players won't encounter unless they've put off the quest until the last minute. the dilemma of the quest is killing one guy you like or a bunch of other innocent people; (almost) killing the guy you like be wouldn't be narratively framed as the good guy choice if it were otherwise.

it's metagaming to know it just takes a couple dice rolls to resist killing your companion, versus the completely unavoidable alfira/bard murder it's compared to. it's not actually evil to decide you want to save your companion and keep the party together instead of letting them die and risk breaking up your entire mission just to save a couple people you don't know, whose survival isn't necessary to continue your quest to stop the absolute.

and as the other anon said you can do it totally by accident. you can try and fail to save isobel and lose literally every single npc at the height of the inn's occupation, and still get the slayer form. is that evil? is it more or less evil than making a choice to have it happen when there's the least collateral damage?

idk if anyone plays in dwrp with these choice by the way lmao. just chatting about the game. i've only seen cut and dry Good Durges and Bad Durges.

i don't know if i'm ready to see a discussion of deontological ethics vs consequentialism on the same webpage as someone seeking out a goblin gangbang thread

there's a bdsm practitioner who will beat your character into religious ecstasy for a permanent buff in the goblin camp of bg3

i also roleplayed (in the game, i don't have a journal) a durge who was nuanced in the opposite direction - didn't want to lose control of himself and black out to do murder orgies, but was an evil guy with limited scruples. succeeded in fighting the urge but encouraged "bad" choices for characters like shadowheart and astarion, ended up rejecting bhaal and then thinking happily about how all his crimes would be his own now, allied with gortash, took the brain for himself instead of his dad. the game has a lot of room for your ethics to be complex.

i threaded on bakerstreet with a durge who is fully resisting and relies on his paladin oath, so your experience is definitely not universal.
