people say they want this kind of thing but in practice they don't. players who want the structure of a game will be disappointed when it doesn't have that. players who just want memes won't want to hang around for ac or building cr. you'll have the worst of both worlds.

if you want a "light" game then you would be better off making a network or milliways style game. it's been attempted a couple of times and seemed really popular but then the games themselves never manifested for one reason or another. if someone made one and actually stuck with it for more than a few months it might be good.

I would play the fuck out of a new Milliways-style game and possibly even a network-only game.

technically it's still going though it's quiet (as you can tell). the idea of having one single setting that doesn't change and characters go in and out can work for practically anything though. just make a game of the denny's meme essentially.

so a Milliways-style game is 'a game where characters can leave the setting and come back whenever they want'? that's the only way it differentiates from other typical games?

The Door/Bound mechanic is a big part of it, but it was also very hands-off wrt mods and most big plots were player-run. Every now and then there would be a setting thing that would affect everyone (like the bar putting characters in Halloween costumes) but there weren't mod-run events/missions/etc the way most games have now. If you wanted to do something that might affect or change the setting you'd have to get mod approval but otherwise people pretty much could run whatever plots they wanted.

tbh this was my favorite part of milliways. some of the most fun i ever had in rp was all of us making our own plot fun like kids on a playground. i wish more current games had space for that.

if your character is already a sexy monster they will be humanized and desexified on arrival

that's a pretty huge difference, nonny, i'm not sure why you're trying to trivialize it

I had an idea once for a sandbox that was essentially both at first but then people could meet up, and even made the comms, and then ended up modding an actual game instead. Sometimes wonder about still doing it because it shouldn't really need much modding, but haven't done it.
