Rundown: rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

i'm not interested in rping canon ships

if i wanted to rethread the canon romance i'd go read the book/play the game/watch the movie

this is why 9 out of 10 times i'm more interested in crosscanon ships

i'm here to rp. that includes developing rapport, feelings

the only exception is when the canon romance has some other major issue that must be dealt with/can only be explored via rp

i think my favorite canon ship gets a pretty damn solid arc in canon but even then there's still tons of stuff to explore that canon never touched on

would play a character from way earlier in the canon just to avoid their ship partner if i need to

but mine is because most canon shippers i've met in dwrp treat it like it is their own actual relationship and get weirdly dramatic about it

the only times i've seen it work out is if the players were long time friends and not two randos secretly bitching if the other character has other friendships/relationships outside theirs

i’ve never seen anyone play the other half of my canon ship (they have barely any characterization and tbh pretty much exist as the motivation for my character to do the things they do in the story) and i’ve noticed other people who play that character will either play a version from before they met their ship or just have them accept they’ll never see them again and move on.

doesn’t help that i’ve never seen anyone play that other half and its a 20+ year old canon

+1 and this goes for "default" ships in canons where there are no or very few canon ships, too. they're all hideously boring at best and queerbaiting shittiness at worst.
