cowboy times in space

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not post personal information. This includes but is not limited to full names, addresses, phone numbers and so on.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.
Do not solicit money, Dreamwidth points, or other currency unless you are offering a good or service in return.

it should be okay for mods to boot people who never engage with the core of a game (ex: only play slice of life in horror games, never play smut or smut-leading threads in a smut game), especially if there's a character cap.

Absolutely. I haven't been in a smut game for years but I swear they all used to have smut AC, don't know if they no longer do. But I've always felt a similar logic should have been used for all games.

Or at least have a Christmas Hangliding Incident response to slice of life in horror games.

this would be an absolute dream

is this unpopular with anybody except the problem players it addresses

shockingly. i don't want to get wanky but you'd think this was common sense and yet.

da

i would say as a former mod this would be a pain in the ass to enforce. you'd have to define what makes a thread slice of life (for example) and then i assume you would have to provide proof to the player you're kicking out which would mean reading all of their threads every month to prove they're not interacting with the setting.

imho it would be easier to just have a rule that says all players must tag in the event post every month and engage with at least one event prompt or be kicked out.

yeah this is the problem. there's no way to enforce it that wouldn't be hell for mods, especially in a medium sized or large game. reading and keeping track of all of your players threads would be a full-time job all on its own.

making events mandatory is the better option, but i feel like this would turn into a nightmare in a horror game. if your event has someone's trigger in it and they can't opt out you'd be throwing your rep as a mod straight into the garbage.

There's also the inevitable pushback when people are legitimately unable to tag into the event (busy but not enough to hiatus, can't find an IC way to engage, just not feelin' it, overloaded last month and only now just crawling out of tag hell) or they tag in and no one engages. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Never mind that just tagging the event post isn't a gauge of engagement if, again, no one tags you (because they already know you're not here for the plot and are just putting up your required toplevel and will abandon it). I don't know how a mod would quantify engagement in a rule but I can see why that idea ain't it.

opinion op

idk if the opinion is rare, but its certainly enforcement is. mods are so afraid of the inevitable public litigation in the game or anon forum if they kick out anyone who didn't very obviously, in the acknowledging sight of all, violate a quantifiable rule that they never move on something so 'subjective.' they should feel empowered to take that step.
