Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. I keep thinking about picking up this character, and I would like some advice just to make sure I don't make her too cutesy/generically nice. I'll probably go over some things on my own, just to refresh my memory and get it all down (like her IC character interview), but I could always use pointers about her, since I get the feeling that they're one of those characters that's really easy to mess up.

And I'm planning on taking her near the end of the anime and ignoring Rebellion for my own personal reasons, if that helps.

On-and-off Madoka player here!

One thing I usually keep in mind about her is that while she's a bit shy and of the cutesy archetype, she's not a complete doormat unlike similar characters. She'll bend a lot to accommodate others, of course, but also seems to have a limit. Particularly if you're playing her from the end of the series (or in past timelines when she's a Puella Magi) when she gets a noticeable confidence boost, she'll try to hold her own in arguments or struggles if she feels like she's being unfairly stepped on.

Thank you so much! This is absolutely something to keep in mind, since it is true. Madoka might have some confidence and self-esteem issues, but she does have a clear head, and when enough's enough for her, she will try to rectify the situation, if that makes any sense. Especially if she feels more confident about herself and/or her abilities, like we see at the end of the series and during previous timelines.

I'll do my best to keep that in mind too, though, since I imagine it might be something that's easy to forget when playing someone like Madoka.

I'm most looking for advice on stuff that might come up for Mokou in games:

-I guess first is a situation where her immortality is removed or replaced with the sort of Jam Jar styled resurrection that sometimes comes up with games.

-Also dealing with the feeling of not having Kaguya around to rip apart on a daily basis.

-Anything general would be nice as well.

I would have thought that Fujiwara no Mokou would be okay with the jamjar style resurrection? Like it would be a different experience to how she would be revived under the effects of the Hourai Elixir but it might possibly be better than what she's used to depending on the game.

Not like her sense of self preservation should be affected - I believe it's really an OOC thing about how altered you want her sense of preservation to be, especially if you've not got a Kaguya or other castmates in game.

general advice on keeping true to her character would be great (mostly what you'd consider important aspects to bear in mind, any sort of side material that helps give her a fuller picture, etc).

i've already got experience playing mute characters and i'm not too worried about taking on particularly action oriented types. it's balancing her personality traits and keeping consistent with what's established that i'm most concerned with.

There's a few particular aspects that I see as gameplay informing the character: she still sticks within the boundaries of any test put out before her, unless a method of escape is clear and waiting for her. Chell could break windows or try and pry loose grates to sneak away if she really wanted to, but instead she plays the game and waits for an opportunity. She's pragmatic, and patient. GladOS sees her as a violent and reckless lunatic, and she CAN be, but it's not her first choice if there's still a path forward.

Another thing to potentially keep in mind is what sense of humor you can glean from her. With any blank-slate player character, it's worthwhile to imagine the silly nonsense you do just to mess with the game is also stuff they would do. Just make a hole in the ceiling and floor and freefall for a while, or two spots in the floor and bounce between them. Why the hell not? She's been locked in this facility for who knows how long, her sources of entertainment are limited. Heck, when she jumps for Wheatley, odds are just as good she's screwing with him. She's capable of nodding, even if she's mute. Maybe she's just sick of robots and wants to dick around with this little orb who's sputtering at her.

Along that line, the game makers have stated that she's not truly mute, but actually stubbornly keeping silent as a show of defiance against GladOS and Aperture--it's the absolute one thing she has that's truly hers and they can't pry it out of her, no matter what. Buuuuut not everyone takes that bit into her characterization, it's up to you.

Past that, just remember: Chell has a boatload of trauma on her. She's escaped Aperture and been dragged right back. She's been betrayed by just about every ally or authority figure she's come across. She hasn't seen a living being in... maybe hundreds of years? She's been exposed to a lot of extremely dangerous experiments, chemicals, radiation, a brain-damaging coma, and then kept awake for days on end through adrenaline vapor. Anywhere you take her, she's likely to start off extremely distrustful, twitchy, and sick.

That's what comes off the top of my head, anyway. Hope it's helpful!

Only six episodes deep into the first season of Gotham (more tomorrow) but I find myself interested in picking him up. I've been spoiler'd so I have a general sense of how things go from this point onwards in the show (not all the details but yeah,) but let's just say I were to pick him up from the point I'm at.

Any general advice besides the main thing of never excusing his ruthless ambition and unapologetic murder by way of woobification? I'll take any and all pointers. Thanks.

what about using "the" and "a", then?

i mean, i wasn't planning on writing out all my w's with a v's and all that nonsense, but i have noticed that russians (in fiction) don't often use the words "the" and "a" when talking about a noun in english. this is my main concern really.

i hope this makes sense?????

if they have speech quirks/missing words, that's usually one thing people don't mind so much. but when you've got like, meridia from brave 'i kin unnerstan what ye be sayin', ye daft sonnoch.' that's where people get annoyed. i, on occasion, play a ukranian character who has a very heavy accent and she does the thing where she drops certain words or places them oddly. i've never had anyone complain about that and i think as long as it's legible, no one cares.

eg; if you have character that sounds like so, in head, this comes out with accent and words missing here and there, yes?

that, i believe (and people can correct me if i'm wrong), is more acceptable than 've haff vays of making you tok.'

That's not accent, it's dialect. You can keep that. Just make sure it's actually accurate to the character you're writing, ad not just something you're leaning on because it's common across the general field of Russian characters.

Look literally all games work with a translator that makes everyone magically speak the same language. There is no need for an accent because they would just be talking their own language, while the listener would hear it in their own

I played him about 10 million years ago and after rewatching my favorite seasons of Buffy, I kinda have the itch again.

I think I'll be playing him around season 5, maybe a little earlier, probably not much later. If anyone has played him before and wants to play sage, that would be especially awesome, but I'm really just fishing for some general advice.
