[D] You dirty bird

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

LOST-esque game

(Anonymous) 2012-10-30 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah I know survival games are pretty popular and it would kinda follow the stereotypical jamjar, but I think the idea of actually surviving without any forms of communication (except a few twists here and there if you've followed the show) would be nice.

I had a bunch of points/ideas I put forth in the last thread that I thought might be worth thinking about, but also:

• What kind of jobs would be available? Would we go beyond the typical farm stuff? Chefs, people working exclusively with livestock, store owners, fishermen, storeowners, café-owners, bartenders, forging depending on how Rune Factory-inclined we are, builders, I remember that one Rune Factory game I owned had a hot spring, etc....

• How would systems for the farming (and, if applicable, other jobs) work? Would there be some kind of system for tracking time, money, and so on, would there be some sort of catch-all based on some kind of level or maybe a tie-in with AC, or would it all just be handwaved?

• How Rune Factory inclined are we thinking here? Is "Rune Factory" just sort of getting slapped onto the title for concept's sake, or are you actually thinking caves and monsters?

anon who knows nothing on the RF side

kind of a suggestion more than an idea, but it'd be awesome to see festivals from the hm64 game. the festivals in 64 were super adorable, shippy, plus fun.

http://fogu.com/hm/hm64/festivals.php

fogu has the festivals from 64 listed here.

i may be two days late to this thread but
yes
this is a great idea and i want it

how would npcs be handled though? would it be possible to create like business relationships with them? like you could get discounts or credit where you couldn't before. or would actual characters eventually get to own their own businesses down the line? that would foster more actual cr than relying on npcs.

also the whole reward system on unlocking a new heart level, would it be across the board or specific to the character? an item or a new area to explore? are they all super grand or sort of normal, but meaningful, items? like when you unlock crush level you get a picture of your crush in a cute frame that your character might love or be embarrassed about.

i don't know i'm just throwing out ideas.

Re: GAME IDEAS

(Anonymous) 2012-10-31 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Has there been any game that had like, a virtual bulletin board where characters could post things on the bulletin in image format?

It could be drawings done by the characters, newspaper clippings glued together, or just written or typed notes.

And maybe every month or so the bulletin could be cleared or something posted could be torn off by another character and the mods could screen the comments to make them disappear.

Re: GAME IDEAS

(Anonymous) 2012-11-04 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
I remember seeing this at damned years ago, I thought it was clever because sometimes the nurses (NPCs) would come and censor some notes. It made some characters try to be discreet about what they wrote.

idk if they still do it now (or if the game is even still running) but yeah.

Coming to this fortress was a mistake. The overseers are mad. The outside is nothing but ash and bone, as far as the eye can see. Inside, it's worse. The stench of death fills the walls, boiling magma lurks beneath the surface, the nobles are throwing their useless weight around, and the walls are covered with carvings of elephants and cheese.

But you don't have a choice. You landed in this strange world, and the King of the Dwarves, a handsome elf, told you that he would only send you back if you spent a tour of duty in this godsforsaken fortress. One year. That's all you have to do. One year.

In Boatmurdered.

MYST

(Anonymous) 2012-11-07 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
Set in a vast underground city, cast to ruins by a catastrophic earthquake. The D'ni once lived here, the center of a vast network of worlds Written and called into being by the D'ni Guilds.

Why are you here? Well, because you found a linking book and touched it, causing you to be immediately dragged into the ruins of this city. Even though the D'ni are gone, their craft lives on. And a handful of them live on, eking out a living between cracked stones and old, splendorous buildings.

Anyone could go home -- but only if they could find the original Book that created their own universe. And, unfortunately, most of the city is made up of libraries, and Books could be found in private residences, or businesses, or collections, or anywhere. It could take decades to search them all, and then a linking book to your world would have to be written. And god forbid you'd find the Book and realize that it has been altered from what you knew it to be.

Characters would live in the ancient city of D'ni, and travel back and forth between all discovered universes in the library. They would even be able to learn how to write worlds themselves. Beyond the quest for getting home, they would have to solve the puzzle of why the D'ni fell in the first place and what's wrong with all the worlds out there.

Basically I'm thinking panfandom, accepts all kinds of characters, OCs and AUs, because the premise really allows for it. Probably very unrestrictive gameplay, a lot of freedom for characters to travel to other worlds and play with things.

Any thoughts?

Re: MYST

i like this! it has opportunity for a lot of different game elements because characters can move fairly freely from setting to setting. horror, slice of life, action/adventure, whatever.

would there be any survival elements, or would it be one of those settings where some overseer leaves out enough food and clothes that all people need to worry about is who made an accidental video post on the network?

Game/Mod Advice Center

(Anonymous) 2012-11-08 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Not so much a game idea, but a place where mods can come and talk and offer each other ideas on how to overcome certain obstacles or help each other better their games.

It'd also be a resource place for those who are looking to start their own games. With tutorials and templates for commonly used html, tips on how to make banners and such, and discussions about how to incorporate multimedia into your game play. Stuff like that.

Would anyone be interested in something like this?

how about a memory loss game

where the characters are forcibly dragged into another world by two warring factions of dickheads who need cannon fodder

as soon as the characters arrive, the two factions each steal half of the characters' memories as leverage

then both factions try to get the characters on their sides with each promising to return a) the memories they've got, and b) the memories they'll pull from the cold dead hands of the other guys ... once they win, of course.

thus leaving the characters to decide whether they want to join the shitheads or the douchebags, knowing only their own names, basic personalities, and the gaping emptiness where their entire lives used to be

they'd get to earn back random memories through missions, foraging, killing enemy factioners, and so on. things could be adapted to suit characters' skill sets, no use in wasting resources

the war would be the main overarching plot but there would be handfuls of smaller events and possible plot twists along the way

does this appeal or are memory loss games passe
