I'm looking for thoughts and tips regarding a couple areas in specific, but of course if there's anything else you feel like sharing, I wouldn't mind at all. The two points I'm mainly trying to think out are:

a) pretty much everything about his relationship with, opinion of, and attitude towards Van. He gives a fairly thorough speech on the subject in Eldrant, but I'm still having trouble wrapping my brain around his mindset, probably because there are so many opposing points to it.
b) details on his sense of morality. Asch obviously has no problem killing soldiers, even off the battlefield, but he shows some concern for civilians at a couple points, and I'd like to have a firmer grasp on where he'd draw that line/what, if any, obligation he would feel to protect innocents. I'm also trying to gauge how much he would let his emotions and personal feelings interfere with his moral guidelines in general.

Can't help with A) but B) he had a very strong sense of obligation toward his country's citizens as a child and that still survives in him. I think he'd help an innocent unless it didn't make sense on a bigger scale aka if he saves one, several others will die. My guess would be soldiers are different because they've pinned their lives on their cause; can't remember if it came up with him in particular but it seems like a theme in general for the game. I know this isn't a complete answer, but that's all I can think of.

I've been interested in playing him lately, in all his glory from his past of thousands of atrocities before his redeption, and before the Dragonborn meets him. I'm a little afraid of screwing up the perception that he is old as sin but also one of the wisest beings you could ever meet, as he portrays himself between the Greybeards that were initially thinking of letting the world be destroyed by Alduin, and the Blades that want to abuse power and end every dragon.

I wonder a little how would he play out in a game, given the innate desire he constantly has the temptation to, of falling back into his old nature. Especially so since he may not get as much of a chance to meditate alone and less so with a lot of characters near him.

One of my problems is that I've only played that game of the series, and I don't know if I need to play the rest in case I may miss something else that he may care about, given he is very old. Almost as old as the world.

Any pointers and interpretations of the character are very welcome.

Advice on characters with them? Specifially, Scottish but I've never really played any character with one before so this is new and I'm kind of nervous about it. I know some people have trouble reading them typed out and all, and I'm not quite sure how to type it out in tags properly. Any advice on this, anons?

So, how do you guys go about playing characters with no canon name or if they only have a nickname in their series?

This may make me super obvious rn, but I don't care.

I really want to put a lot of emphasis on his negative/lacking qualities while still writing a character that's able to interact socially. There's the implication that the Cullens had a social life before Bella showed up in Forks, and I want to explore something along that vein. Or at least include it.

Potential canon-point is the first book/movie, though I can fit anywhere comfortably within the first three if any anon thinks that my goals suit another part of canon better. (I won't touch BD though, can we all agree that doesn't exist?)

Say you want to pick up a character you have never played before from a canon you have never played from before. Do you go and apply to a game immediately or try to mingle on DM and/or memes first? How to find out whether or not you really have that particular voice to begin with? Thanks.
