Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Temporary Change: To reduce the strain on Dreamwidth's servers new entries will go up when a post reaches 3,000. Please refrain from spamming so we can stretch these entries for a little longer. We don't need several threads soliciting photo evidence of body parts, and we already know that we only care about yaoi. Failure to comply will only result in deletions and butthurt. "People may notice site slowdown/cache error pages. We're working on fixing. You can help: finish posts at 3k comments, not 5k or more." - Dreamwidth@Twitter

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Kind of surprised that there's not an ATLA-based game around.

Unless I missed something here.

i was considering making one around the time when korra first started airing, but someone else had made communities and accounts so i decided to let them at it. since it doesn't seem like they're interested anymore maybe i'll pick this project back up again.

OP

(Anonymous) 2012-07-11 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
Right now, the main thing I'm trying to figure out is if I should make a separate mod account or just have my main journal as it.

Currently, I'm the only mod, so it seems a little silly to make a mod account.

I don't mind either way, I just don't know which one is the best for the DR.

Deus Ex Game Idea

(Anonymous) 2012-07-11 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
A game that takes place in the Deus Ex universe. Either the Revolution era or the first game. I haven't got much further than THIS IS A NEAT IDEA.

Maybe have factions. Vendors that allow characters to gain 'upgrades' which would probably work better in the Revolution era for the dependency on anti rejection drugs.

I'm not sure where it could take place. Hengsha, maybe? For the organized crime and layered city of awesome?

INCOMPETENT NPC GAME

(Anonymous) 2012-07-12 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not the original OP of the idea, but I'm planning on starting this game up eventually - but I need some help from you guys. I don't want to mod this game alone, though.

I would need someone to also help me map out the town, since I'm really bad at construction.

Ideas so far:
1. The world would be a utopian world that is pretty peaceful. Probably a somewhat futuristic/modern town, honestly.
2. Should the NPCs be humanlike or more like stuffed animals?

That's all I got, plus the ideas from the previous threads. Throw me your ideas, guys!

Transmetropolitan based game?

(Anonymous) 2012-07-12 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Something set in the City, with all its crazy wackiness.

Ideas are still pretty vague at this point. But I was thinking maybe characters could be from reservations that were being shut down? So they now have to be reintroduced to society at large. Nonhuman characters would be totally welcome, considering how much people can change their traits in the canon, though they might be shocked to see that their features become a new style! And just overall culture shock cranked up to eleven, that kind of thing.

Probably would be primarily a slice of life type thing, as much as that's possible in that place. There'd be tons of events and goings on, of course, like in any big city. Might also get into City politics a bit?

Just throwing ideas out there.

MARVEL-ONLY GAME

(Anonymous) 2012-07-13 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
So, looking at a bunch of IJ games, we realized that the openness and casualness of those games coupled with the encouragement to apply very, very obscure characters is pretty damn desirable and something I think a ton of people can appreciate. However, those are for IJ roleplayers, who are a far cry different than DW roleplayers.

So, here's this: A Dreamwidth jamjar game with communicators, set in a universe very similar and at one point analogous to Earth-616, but no longer so when players come into the game. There would be a host of Marvel-related events in Marvel-related locations in an open world with no canon OCs, but canon AUs would be allowed. We'd essentially be making a large game with great accessibility with quality control and being open to massive change through both player actions and changes in canon. We're hoping for a ton of mediums being represented ranging from different segments of the Marvel universe.

Thoughts? We're already drafting up ideas and specifics.

WILD WEST GAME

(Anonymous) 2012-07-13 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
So I don't know if this idea was done and the game puttered out and I never noticed or something, or if the enthusiasm for it has simply gone dormant--I remember it vaguely being discussed here before.

I've been listening to Hans Zimmer, Ennio Morricone, and Johnny Cash all day and it's really gotten me in the mood for an Old Western themed game. UNFORTUNATELY, I have only watched very little as far as traditional Spaghetti Westerns (I am thus probably the worst candidate for even suggesting this idea) but this is something I feel I could easily supplement with a little bit of research. (What better excuse than "canon review".)

- Probably the first thing to decide is if it'd work better as an AU game or a jam-jar type. Going the former would be very easy and of course stay true to the very rugged atmosphere of the old west (no freaky super powers, ect.) and admittedly I'd really love to see how everyone translates their characters into the setting. That will of course require research, becoming familiar with said setting, and taking the time to create the AU and I can see how that time investment might be off-putting to some people who are not very acquainted.

Going with a jam-jar I think something like that would work better with another genera (probably sci-fi) thrown in to help make it congeal better (explaining powers, non-humans, ect). I'm thinking a Cowboys vs. Aliens with a dash of Bravestarr, Firefly and Brisco County Jr. sort of mash-up. While more open and flexible, special consideration would have to be made in discerning what setting elements ventures too far from the concept of "Old Western" and what doesn't. The more I think about it, it would probably ultimately produce something of a Steampunk feeling game. (Which I am not opposed to, really!)

I, personally, favor an AU game more.

- METAPLOT? I have no idea. I'd like for one but I can't for the life of me think of anything at the moment. Slice-of-life here and there is to be expected, though I hope the trials and tribulations of the setting would offer a lot to work with.

- A trend I've been noticing on recent ATPs are a desire to have more face-to-face interaction, or have a "network" only be a supplemental thing to the game. A setting like this would be absolutely perfect for that. Communications would be limited to mail (Pony Express) or telegraph (probably military-related or emergency communications only). Otherwise everything will take place face-to-face. Maybe weekly or bi-weekly there could be a big, open saloon/tavern log to help generate CR? (Unless we go with a sci-fi mash-up, in which these things would of course change.)

That's about all I got at the moment.

I don't know what to put this as in the subject.

Okay, so, this is an idea for a game that's outside the usual jamjar. It's a game that has "worlds joining together" sort of thing. The idea came from a video game although the game itself mostly won't be based on it.

Basically, what I mean by "worlds joining together" is that characters OU world/home will all (for some mysterious reason) be joined together to form a new world which will be the world that the game takes place in. The catch is that characters memories of the world will be slightly altered and make them believe that the world has always been the way it is now and that nothing has changed.

Would there be any interest in a game like this? I'm curious because this is something I'm currently discussing about with a few others as well.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-14 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd like to see a game where characters can gradually work their way up and advance themselves rather than forever being under the thumb of NPCs who are far more powerful than them. I understand the importance of having such NPCs in place to make sure that nobody godmodes, but it would be nice to have characters who are willing to fall in line with the NPCs to be able to advance themselves.

Think of it like...a giant pharmaceutical corporation. No player characters will ever be able to be the CEO or on the board of directors, but the hard working and ambitious characters could rise up to middle management over time. As opposed to being extremely disposable temp workers. Or the human subjects for drug trials.

I think a game that would allow player characters to advance in power could give rise to some excellent villain plots.

POLL: What kind of DR setting would you like to see?

(Anonymous) 2012-07-16 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
Hey guys, just looking for a general poll here: there's a lot of DR concepts out there, but what kind of settings are you most interested in throwing your characters into, as players? Big futuristic cities? School settings? Wilderness? Apocalyptic wasteland? Zany endless magical mansion? Sprawling desert civilizations? Alien planets? Trashy trailer park in tornado alley?

I've been toying with a panfandom desert-setting DR based on something of a combination of Journey and the various incarnations of Ivalice, but before I go ahead I think it'd be more useful to know what people are looking for, in general.

Bioshock | Rapture

[personal profile] replaceme 2012-07-17 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
Would anybody be interested in a game taking place in the underwater utopia of Rapture? AU slice of life with a side of horror. I aim to make it plot driven and have events calling for an army of player made splicers. There would, of course, be plasmids and weapons aplenty. I know it's nothing new, but I would also want to make integrate hacking into the game. Player characters would have a skill level that they'd then use to hack posts made on the network in addition to the machines littered around the city.

...and as far as plot, the rise and fall of rapture. Of course it wouldn't have to end there. Survivors of the first incident could then rebuild the city, etc etc. I'm getting ahead of myself. But anyway, the basic jist is game set in Rapture -- Y/N?

Re: GAME IDEAS

(Anonymous) 2012-07-19 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
I'd kind of like to make a game where you get a small group of players/characters that get together to solve a single situation. Then disband or stick together, but that bit ends until a new situation comes up.

I'm not describing it very well, but. Like. Okay, let's say that Sailor Moon, Captain America, Connor MacLeod, Mario, and Luke Skywalker end up in a group. Their mission, should they choose to accept it, is to find out why horses in a particular farm are going missing. However, the entire scenario changes when they discover that the horses aren't being stolen for resale value, but because bandits need to set up a relay of rides in order to rob a train and get away without killing their horses. So they have to stop the train and get the horses back to the owner. Once that's done, they either hang out a bit or go their separate ways.

Next scenario happens. Same group, but they're joined by Cloud Strife and Inspector Gadget, and Luke leaves only to be replaced by Date Masamune. Their mission, should they choose to accept it, is to rescue a village of rice farmers from a band of 40 dragon-riding Vikings.

And so on.

PIGFARTS

[personal profile] rumbleroar 2012-07-19 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
Still want to make a pigfarts game but I keep waffling because I don't want to make it unless people are actually interested.

General premise: Characters dropped onto the rocketship headed to mars and find their acceptance letter and an explanation of what is going on. All characters (despite age, yes) are expected to start off as first years but placement tests happen once a month (probably handwaved and leaving it up to players to decide if they want their character to even do it/if they pass, etc) to move up to the next year for those that may already have magic skillz. Once they hit 7th year they can stay and loaf around or become a staff member or professor.

Allowing pretty much all characters ever, including Potter Musical AU's (maybe other AU's). Multiples would be allowed as long as they're canon multiples/from a different series (KH, etc. Potter Musical and Harry Potter characters would both be allowed too hup.) or an AU. OCs maybe, I'd have to think about it. Probably going to be on the crackier, light headed side considering Pigfarts is from Potter Musical and I don't do serious too often (and when I do it's still not very serious).

If there's interest, I'll probably start working on the FAQ and leaving things for potential players to decide on things like House Names, House Colors, etc through suggestions and voting because I am a fan of player input!

Re: GAME IDEAS

a game where characters have a second self that they become at specific times. sort of like arcanarum (I think), but with different dynamics.

one idea I had was that the characters become hosts to the spirits of dead people who were involved in a war or some other big epic activity and who can only take control of the characters' bodies during a full moon when the stars are aligned just right and a llama farts to the west or whatever. the ghosts have their own relationships and alliances among each other and their own agenda to carry out, which the characters must also help them accomplish if they want to get rid of the spirits and go back home. there are certain things the characters can accomplish that the spirits can't and vice versa.
