Sooooo I somehow managed to break the Name field in my journal's profile page by c&p'ing a fancy font into it, and now it looks like an endless row of ????????s. DW tells me that I need to follow a link to a conversion page because of "invalid characters" when I try to edit the name field again BUT that link is broken.

Has anybody had this happen to them before or knows the right link? I've already submitted a support ticket to DW back in May, but I haven't heard anything back yet.

i feel like i saw your journal at some point because this looks super familiar. i was confused af because of the character limit but found it kinda funny given the character

what's the url it gave you? i know they changed the url for refunding points to something like shop dreamwidth.org/refundtopoints so i wonder if they changed the url for that page too but didn't update this, so maybe someone here can figure out the real page

or maybe it's on the fact somewhere? i'll look in a sec. only other idea i have is to contact support again because they probably lost the ticket

so far: i see nothing in the faq, several support tickets asking the same since around april and by searching aound i found several journals with the same issue. gonna keep digging and try to make a throwaway journal to try to replicate the problem. will report back

oh okay i tried to delete a bunch of that on my phone but i see it didn't backspace. thanks phone

anyway, i was able to replicate the issue. all i can gather is it likely has something to do with using subscript in the name field, but how i replicated it was going through fsymbols and inputting "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz-123456789" and pasting each version until one borked it (the third one did so i stopped there)

bad news: i looked at the tickets again and this issue stretches back to at least 2017, so there is unlikely to be a fix for it like, ever, but emailing denise directly (if possible) is probably going to yield more info than the support tickets

it's been a long while since i used a rename token but if you're attached to the name, maybe you can use a rename to swap the current journal with a different one with a working name field? considering a rename is $15 and i don't remember how they work, it's a bit risky but potentially an option

if the field doesn't bug you (and isn't breaking anything in notifs) but you want the character's name in the journal, you can always put it in the profile field, at least. sorry i couldn't be of any actual help, anon

what happens if you just delete it in the "edit profile" page instead of that weird link?

da who did a bunch of testing: the name field is gone and replaced with the text in the image (https://i.imgur.com/GTSpDAT.png). there's no way to get it back or edit afaik, and i didn't see anything in the console to forcefully change your name either. i tried many different variations on the utf8conversion url and looked at the sitemap but nothing came up

it also turns out someone i messaged shares a lot of ships with me so we're gonna try a psl. so ty unsung hero, you did good!

PLEASE tell me how you solved it, I checked the support page and there's no reply there, all the tickets I found remain unsolved, probably because new people screwed up.
