I feel this anon, but it's not much better in meme comms. You also don't get tag-ins if you don't already have friends interested in playing with you, or get flaked on, or your threads die after a couple of tags in memes. And like you said, memes won't ever give you that fifty-player sandcastle experience.

But it's not a bad idea to dip into memes/PSLs if it's rp that you're craving, no one said you can't be in a game and also have PSLs/memes. Or if you're just feeling down about it all, stepping away and coming back later might give you another wave of motivation to try again.

Ime, we just have to keep trying because the memes aren't going to give us what we want either. Hope you find a game that works for you anon :,)

the first part of your comment isn't true for everyone. i don't know many people on this site and i go in blind on bakerstreet. i might have the occasional dry spell, but i often find i can get tag backs that don't fizzle out. some do. some get ignored. but i have consistent play that winds up off that meme and into new ones/psls.

you have to tag out. put yourself out there. dust yourself off when shit doesn't work out, try again, repeat. you have to try. a lot of people don't like that, because they're wallflowers, they don't like feeling like they wasted their time, miss the days of throwing a top level in a game comm and getting guaranteed replies, etc

i'm one of those people who likes to tag out more than top leveling and i'm having no problems carrying various threads for more than a single reply. a bunch have turned into psls

this is across multiple characters too, all wildly different so i know it's not just me making my experiences universal

you know what, good for you! I'm happy (and tbh a little bit jealous) of the people who do well on memes. I couldn't make it work, just like DA said you have to put yourself out there and the repeated crickets and lack of ooc context on whether it was them or me got too daunting for me to keep trying. I stick to games, where I actually feel motivated to put myself out there.

My point is I don't think the grass is greener in bakerstreet, especially if OP's point was "I'm bummed that people aren't engaging as much as I'd like". I see loads of RL woes saying similar things across the board.

nayrt but the math isn't mathing when you never tag any top levels (therefore signal that you're here to write) and instead "give up" but then expect that everyone flocks to you when you top level...

every time i did some digging on friends who said they don’t like bakerstreet because they felt ignored i found out they were wallflowers who exclusively top leveled but didn’t tag out

ideally for every top level you want two tag outs, three if you want to be sure you’re signaling you’re here to RP not musedump

Don't tag the blank ones, then. Go for people who put something in the TL. Or focus on memes like the Don't Panic/Dialogue Starter/I Believe In/Never Have I Ever-type memes, where people have to give you something to work off, and even if you don't know a character you have a jumping-off point.

Go back a couple days and see who's had substantial threads on other memes, and make a point of tagging them.

(I will say, there's a lot of memes that don't give you much to go on that are really popular. I think a big part of my personal success is scrolling past anything that's 'would you fuck/date my character/tell them they're pretty/am I your type?' Those are a trap if you don't just want something shallow.)

this is why i avoid those types of memes. my haunts are memes that force your character to say something. that something, if the rper is decent to good, is a hook
