I read a comment somewhere recently that pointed out that websites as we knew them are basically dead, nearly everything we consume now is through SOME form of social media, whether that's facebook, twitter, bluesky, instagram, tumblr, tiktok. And that kinda shook me because, wait, I hadn't noticed but yeah, that's true. Most of what we see is served to us through an algorithm. Back in the day, when you wanted to get into fandom, you had to go find it and/or make it. One of my first online spaces was like a bunch of tweens on a little forum on a Sailor Moon website called Chibi Angel or something. There were still flamers, but it was different. The algorithm knows rage is addicting, and the longer your eyeballs stay on the social media, the more money they make.
