Yeah, I did 2-4 sentences per answer and my whole app fit into one comment. I was sweating a bit when I heard people say "multiple sections".

Tbh I wouldn't be surprised if cutting out the clearly bad/OOC apps as well as apps that didn't fulfill a specific criteria brought us down enough for the mods to go "we're close enough to 100, we'll accept the couple people over 100" or something.

This is so weird to me. Open/Poly has kind of been the thing in sex games for a while (and it's easier to go along with it in a sex game where you're encouraged to have smut threads with many people), but I always assume monogamous in non-smut games unless the character is canonically poly/into open relationships.

i can't see any mod team doing that, i think they'll stick to the 100. anything else risks starting wank

i think going against their own rules right out of the gate would open them up to wank and people trying to bend other rules, so i'm certain that they'll keep to the 100 cap. they already said that this round's cap didn't mean next round's applicants would be limited to the number of players who drop. i think that solidifies them planning on sticking to their guns.

i think the only time going over cap makes sense is when it's like, you have a cap of 100 and only get 102 apps and decide to accept everyone. that i have seen happen a few times before. 40 over is a lot so i wouldn't expect it here.

yeah. i also don't see almost 40 apps being bad or ooc enough to bring them to cap

seconding this recc. it's one of the few series i've seen that in addition to having its own plot that doesn't fit in with the cookie cutter versions of a lot of series, it has an amazing cast compilation as well. the story runs along smoothly through it all and you love and hate a lot of characters. it also ends on its own note. i'm thinking of a rewatch myself.

orphan black was also one of my favorites for series that had its own bent and amazing cast/story.

for movies, i'd be suggesting 'older' ones, since they were actually some of my faves too. the bone collector, along came a spider, pelican brief, se7en, double jeopardy, the client, the fugitive. if you wind up liking those, there's always a lot more in the 90s/00s that meet your criteria that stand the test of time.

agreed. accepting 100 out of 140 means sticking to their stated plan even if it means rejecting some good apps. accepting 102 means telling 38 players they are crap.

even if they are, making 38 people feel hurt or mad at you would not be a promising start to a game.

I saw one player say they had to split it over THREE comments. I will be shocked if this mod team survives this level of interest for more than a few months. even after they get through this app round they'll be running a game of 100 players out of the gate and that's a lot of work. I hope they hire on some new mods asap.

I don't play in sex games but open/polyamorous relationships have been more or less treated as the default in every game I've joined in the last several years. Like there would have to be a discussion about being monogamous, it wasn't just assumed. There's been a noticeable shift in DWRP as a whole and I sympathize with everyone who's had bad experiences, currently dealing with one myself. Love the player I'm shipping with, it's the other players whose characters are also dating theirs that are the nightmares. They've been so shitty to me in so many small, weird, manipulative ways it makes me feel crazy bringing up my concerns to the player I'm shipping with, who's basically 🤷 about it all anyway. :(

but it's a player cap, isn't it? it might be that some of the 140 apps are from players who applied more than one character too, and that could bring down the actual number of contenders. there were definitely people who reserved multiple characters!

most of the multiapps are in the same line.

this seems a bit presumptuous given that we don't even know how big the mod team is right now. they've already tweaked and adjusted dates to accommodate for the surge of interest too

Same here, anon. I've definitely seen a shift - most games I've been over the past few years had a few open relationships or triads in them, when that used to be much more of a rarity - but monogamous ships have still been the majority.

Wildly different RP corners, I guess?

did you bring this issue up to the mods, or did you just want this random anon to feel bad for positively mentioning whoever this is?

I feel bizarrely lucky reading this thread because I've done multiple poly ships across various games and it all went fine. Most were open relationships, but two were triads - coordinating three-person threads could get tricky, but not so much that it got frustrating.

I lean more towards slow burn myself, since a lot of my characters struggle with intimacy for various reasons, but that also gives characters more times to catch feelings about more people. Sometimes it's fun to chase where that goes, depending on who the characters are. (And I've had things get really tense or complicated IC, which was delicious for me, but only because everyone OOC was communicative and respectful and didn't blur those lines.)
