i don’t think it’s a reflection on your tag necessarily. i have seen well written tags ignored or backburnered many times just so the player can play with their friends or favored canons. it is what it is so don’t get too down. in my opinion it’s better to find out who isn’t worth tagging and plotting with in the game proper early on from tdm interactions or event one interactions. it saves a lot of wasted time and energy to make a note of who does or does not tag back and to focus your plotting and tagging out time on the ones who do once you’re in!

It sounds like something that should be obvious but after reading everyone’s responses I’m realizing how ridiculous this whole situation is.

someone i thread with pretty regularly in the game we share has a habit of including meta comments that address what my character was thinking in their character's prose. fictional example:

my character: wonders whether maybe it's a custom in [other character]'s world to wear exclusively red and green this time of the year, but doesn't ask, as it'd be impolite

other character's prose: lololol [other character] would never willingly wear red and green, this is purely for this circumstance, she'd go crazy if she knew [my character] suspected otherwise!

except it's every single tag, at multiple points. i find it very jarring and distracting, but know other people really enjoy this kind of stuff. is it something you'd bring up with a gentle request to stop, or do you just accept your styles are incompatible and move on from threading together?

It's only been a couple of weeks but everyone's been a blast tagging! I've never been so excited over a game and over building CR until Syn.

i don't like that either, anon. it's an incompatibility. i would just move on. i wouldn't want them to stress over trying to change a style they're having fun with

Personally, my last steps are always to resize then sharpen. So I would flatten before resizing, yes, along with any other adjusting I want to do to an icon, like adding filters or using the brush tool to get rid of a few pixels of the wrong color in a corner thanks to a strange background object.

I wasn't sure, but apparently this is also standard practice. I found a really interesting thread by photographers discussing it here: https://www.photo.net/forums/topic/482857-to-flatten-or-not-to-flatten-before-resizingresampling/ There's a lot you don't need to read if you aren't super curious, but this image in particular demonstrates the difference between flattening before (correctly rendered left side) and after (incorrect result on the right side):

Like before, for some layer effects, it doesn't matter. The bottom normal layer with no filters, the 50% dissolve, and the multiply layers for example all look very similar in both cases. It's not until you have dramatic filters like darken, color burn, etc that you start to see colors being resampled incorrectly as every layer is resized independently.

Will also add that when people ignore my clear request to ask first (in my journal, plurk profile, CR meme) I automatically assume they either: can't read good; think my boundaries don't apply to them; or are mass-adding everyone thoughtlessly and aren't going to give a shit when I do what I always do when this happens, decline them and stop tagging them.

i'd just move on. it's a writing quirk they would probably have trouble giving up. sometimes your styles just don't mesh. i have a similar problem with writers who reply to every single line of dialogue with a different answer in the same tag. i just try to avoid those writers as much as i can. they're happy with their style and i'm happy with mine.

given that this is happening a lot on current tdms to multiple people that i have seen scrolling by and that i have read those tags, i would have to disagree. statistically it's likely they hit a flake who just wants to tag friends or certain mediums. no use getting down on themselves over that when it is more a reflection on the person they tagged.
