As someone that moved to study abroad a decade or so ago, I'd actually say that in some respects it's easier than general moving because there's a lot that's dealt with for you (obviously that is somewhat depending on your course and exchange program, but it's not quite as 'organise moving van, sort out internet, weep into the night' as moving otherwise tends to be IME).

That said, a week may be optimistic in the sense that you're going to have a new timezone (presumably), a new routine, and an entirely new country to adapt to. I ended up being more (boomerang) active during my time studying abroad because my timezone aligned with the US a lot more than my native timezone, but that's not a guarantee - obviously it depends on where you're moving from/to.

Dec + Jan tend to be fairly slow in DWRP as a whole regardless, so as long as you're not setting false expectations, I think you'll be fine to start things now. There's no need to put RP on hold for an entire month until you move, and then an additional couple of weeks on top of that. As long as you're upfront about how available you're going to be over the moving process (that is, "hey, I'm moving, tags will be slower" should suffice for any ongoing threads tbh), I don't see the issue.

i typically jump in if the game premise really hit the mark for me. if my friends are joining it AND my tdm experience is going well, it's even better. and importantly, i can think if ideas of what to do even without events, which is important imo. having plans to do with and without relying on events, as well as knowing if you can do it as a lcw

Trying to understand what makes some top levels more successful than others in tdms and logs.

Obviously it's impossible to tag every single person but what do you look for in a good top level and why are some reasons you don't tag others?

Trying to find a job after being unemployed for a year after I graduated with a useless diploma.

I have been looking into airline jobs, like stewardess or customer service agent. I think something like that would keep me happy for a while. I've traveled a lot and plane staff usually seem unhappy lol but I don't really care. I am a freak who actually loves airports and flying. I like constant change with some routine or repetition in the mix. I like being away and meeting strangers.

I don't know. I just want to have an income again and not dwell on how much money I wasted on post-secondary.

idk what makes them successful, but the only reason I don't tag is because I can't think of how my character would respond to the prompt. Or, I guess, I read the prompts, and see nothing that would lead to a thread versus one or the other character just shutting off the interaction in two tags. And that's not the fault of the prompt, it could be the hookiest hook to ever hook but the specific chemistry betwee our characters would not lead to a lasting thread.

I do sometimes bend characterization to force, say, my stoic ass or my idiot to be curious enough to sort out the situation, if I really want to try to get some CR going, but even that isn't foolproof. At least I read all the prompts, take a moment to imagine a response, and if it doesn't give me enough to roll with, I pass.

I skip the toplevels that have characters doing things like [quietly stands to one side assessing the situation and staying in his lane] or [silently reads a very good book politely in an armchair, minding her own damn business]

I tend to tag the ones that have a character doing something, or, if not, have something in the setting dragging characters together like chickens attacking and forcing strangers to work together

I also like introspection but I've also seen some which are heavy on the introspection but don't actually have their character do much of anything? So it's like 3 paragraphs of their characters thoughts and feelings and angst

And then the real part I can interact with is just something like "[walks through mall going uwah] uwah..."

top levels i tagged out to on a recent event included: my friends, people who plotted with me on the recent cr meme, characters i like from canons i know

a lot of times it's just who you know in a game and that popularity of the canon you're playing from

+1, a 'Maybe' or an 'IC no/OOC yes' section or demarcation is the best. I've done this with every character that has a kink list, because I can see characters still enjoying the good sex even if the kink isn't what they're in for, or I've written scenes where the kink is more of a background label rather than the point. e.g. I don't think my character is into bondage but if we work together to whip up a scenario where someone gets tied up, it's not a "bondage kink scene" just...bondage is somewhere in the mix but not the whole point of the scene. A Maybe section saves hard Nos for things I would nope all the way out of. Never had issues with people taking my Maybes for Yeses, everyone has been good about discussing how to fit things into the mix.

don't get discouraged nonny, just take a breather and tackle one at a time!

tags can get overwhelming, esp when rl gets in the way, but just do what you are able to do, and little by little it'll get done. it seems insurmountable until you carve away a few little chunks of tags. you can do it, i believe in you!

potentially strange question, but what games have a sizeable amount of 30+ aged characters nowadays?

honestly, i feel like it's this more than anything else

in order of priority:

- friends
- people who play characters I like or characters from canons I like that have interesting prompts
- characters that look interesting that have interesting prompts

generally I can bounce off anything (even 'stands there prettily' prompts if I know the character) but even I can't squeeze water from a stone so having a hook makes me more likely to drop in

knowing the canon is definitely a big one, even if it's older or something I only half remember. especially when there's a ton of top levels and I get tired of reading the same kind of reply to the same prompt, I'll focus on the characters I recognize.

ultimately i know i can't be responsible for other people's emotions and all i can do is work on the hurt i have left over, but damn, really sucks knowing that you will absolutely never get a shred of vindication or an apology from some people, right?

like, it's way healthier to just cut them off and move on, but fuck man, it'd be nice to just let my deeply neglectful and emotionally abusive parents know how much long term damage they did to my mental well being. or that my personality-disorder riddled ex did actually push me to contemplating suicide and i had to claw my way out of that on my own and now i'm probably just another "awful ex" story they tell people for sympathy. but obviously saying that would be super fucked up! so instead i just. cope.

i hate this time of year my seasonal depression gets so bad and all these old wounds get momentarily opened up.

highkey suggest getting a therapist (a highly-trained one, ime literally look for phds if you can, you're likely to have a way better experience than flopping through lcsws) so you don't have to just suffer with that shit every single winter
