i would love some points to this account! (also this is lovely of you, happy holidays 💕)

It might be of use to you to include a character suitability section in the app, a one- or two-liner for the applicant to describe which of these options the character is inclined to, and the reason why they were selected.

I doubt we get as many of such cases these days, but having such a section could pre-empt those "but my character could just warp portal back home" "but my character is specialer than your OC/NPC and punishment doesn't work" "but my character has the bullshit ability to kill everyone" types. On the flip side someone could app Farmer Thanos with the eventual goal to let him gain/regain powers to become a huge threat if that is the direction the player wants to take.

That said, I'm completely canon blind so it could be that I am viewing this through the lens of typical DWRP mechanics than the tabletop style you had in mind.

a friend launched a game that seemed like exactly the game i wanted and i was excited to play in it. things happened and i eventually had to admit to myself that the game wasn't working out for me and drop. now friend is gushing about how thankful they are to all the players for making their dream game a reality and i'm feeling post-drop regret with a side order of guilt.

But anon, you did help make their game a reality. You WERE a player. You apped in the beginning (presumably) when it is most important for there to be interest and helped their game get off the ground. So it didn't work out and you're not currently in it... but so what? I'm sure your friend would still include you in the group of people they're gushing about.

what if you use / instead

Character A is a rough-around-the edges dude in a dangerous profession (spy, mercenary, soldier, bodyguard, etc). He's incredibly good at what he does, is kind of a violent asshole with a very dominant personality, and is especially good at building working relationships that start and end at "I'd kill probably try to kill you myself if you weren't so useful". He's either an Omega that everyone assumes is an Alpha or an Alpha for real, but either way he uses suppressants to keep a thumb on his heats/ruts so they aren't a distraction to his work.

Character B is an Alpha and in some way Character A's superior. Either his handler, his commanding officer, the bodyguarded, or maybe even a king or warlord if we want to take things in a more fantasy-themed vibe, but the skinny of it is that they both know Character B is the one calling the shots here. Maybe there's some friction over that because Character A is headstrong and really good at toeing the line of insubordination, both because he likes to get under B's skin a little as a treat and because....well, he's just kind of an asshole like that, but there's also an understanding of mutual (possibly begrudging) respect between them that makes them work together pretty well, as well absolute boatload of UST that neither of them have dealt with up to this point.

This all comes to a head with the inevitable surprise heat(or rut) that hits when Character A least expects it to. Maybe it's a genuine and unexpected suppressant failure, or maybe Character B finds out about the suppressants and sabotages them for whatever reason (maybe he wants to put A firmly back in line to prove a point, maybe it's a punishment for something, maybe he's been looking for a way to mark ownership of A for a while, maybe he just thinks A just needs some pipe laid to calm him the fuck down), but one way or another Character A is about to get the hole wrecking of his life.

Things I'm interested in are power imbalances, forced submission, size differences, rough and sloppy sex, creampies and too much come, marking and claiming, possible orgasm play and denial, and maybe some light degradation and humiliation.

Hard nos for me are pregnancy and bathroom play.

I'd like to play Character A in this scenario!

For both characters I'm thinking around the 30+ age range, and I have no medium preference.

do you usually differentiate between kinks that are being played IC, in the sense that the characters are actively kinking on the thing (like, doing XYZ because they're explicitly into it), vs kinks that are OOC, in the sense that it's the players who are kinking on them but to the characters it's something neutral (like for example loving descriptions of hands because a player has a hand kink, but it's not something the characters themselves pay active attention to)? is there a snappier term for it than my bumbling explanation?

Looking for a preppy, orange/red haired girl. Animated/drawn only. Daphne from Scooby Doo is a good reference for what vibe I'm looking for.

kinks your character is into ic versus kinks you enjoy writing ooc, essentially

it's not a universal thing on kinklists as far as i can tell. but personally i just include a legend and a couple distinct symbols on a given character's rp kinklist to notate what's an ic favorite versus an ooc favorite. i actually even have one case where a kink my character would be into is a kink i'd really rather not write and would prefer to just handwave if it comes up, so having distinctions like that can be handy in that sort of case

but yeah for notation purposes it doesn't have to be too convoluted tbh

I think people usually just describe it like you do - as IC vs OOC kink interests. some people even have their kink lists set up as such, with their characters preferred kinks and then the player's preferred kinks, and marking where those two things overlap. And yes, especially with harder/darker kinks, I think most rp folks do differentiate so they can make it clear that blorbo A going 'iyaaaan, stop it!' does not mean that blorbo A's player wants the scene to stop.

Good rule of thumb for anything smutty is do not pierce the ic/ooc boundary. You risk coming across as a creep very easily if you’re oversharing what gets you going. It’s ok to be enthused about writing certain scenarios or kinks because it’s fun/interesting/novel, just be aware of the line that shouldn’t be crossed.

yeah for sure, i would never directly tell a person i'm rping with "i have XYZ kink i'm getting off to ABC", i'm just wondering how to make that distinction on something like a character's kink list.

personally i try not to involve my kinks with my character. sometimes my character would icly be into some things I’m into and that’s great, but i won’t involve them in anything they wouldn’t be into just because i’m into it because at a certain point it feels ooc and i’m not into playing my character that way.

i know not everyone plays that way though, so my suggestion would be making a separate category or shuffle those sort of kinks that are an ‘ic maybe/no’ but an ‘ooc yes’ into your ‘maybe’ column.

new to dreamwidth rp. im enjoying my text threads, but use a font on my phone keyboard to do it. what is the go-to text thread font?

is it courier? if so, i notice some people have a less bold version of it. how do i get that?

might seem dumb but i didn't get a personal computer until recently, i always used library ones!
