did you tag in late? sometimes when you tag in late it seems like other people around you are still getting lots of comments- but sometimes the other toplevels get heavily pushed and talked about for an unrelated reason

tl;dr i wouldn't assume it's that people don't want to play with you.

also if it’s a tdm where lots of people already know each other, sometimes your thread can get lost through no fault of your own.

that and potentially the people that might have tagged them were the ones she tagged out to.

i've seen a few new faces around within the past week or so (tavs and companions alike) and i've been liking seeing them all get their feet wet!

Negative CR should be as organic as any other CR - two characters talk a bit/team up on a thing, maintain a neutral interaction for a while, then one of them says or does something to make the other go 'oh hell naw' and we two players gleefully riff off it to get them disagreeing, fighting, whatever. Coming in hot with warrantless aggro in the first tag is almost never IC even for assholes and it's borinng. Hell, even villains will hold a conversation with you for a while to find out whether you can be used or toyed with, so a bog-standard asshole can do at least that much.

i've been thrilled to see an increase in people playing minthara. i love her.

same! i was hoping she'd gain popularity as people got to do their second runs!

i think the changes in patch 5 in giving players an alternate means of recruiting her without requiring mods or sheepomancy will help. in the meantime, i'm just going to stare longingly without anyone to tag them with.

maybe i'll pick up orin for sheer nightmare fuel.

any/any would usually indicate that you don't have a gender/sex preference for characters, it's pretty confusing to see it immediately followed by "and you play a queer man".

This year has been really hard for us between layoffs, and, perhaps one of the worst things that could happen, a cancer diagnosis in September. Items on this list with hopefully help make my wife's time during chemo a little easier, and to assist me in things like make-ahead meals and keeping everything in our home disinfected and clean.

Well wishes are also welcome, since I know this year has been rough for so many people.

Do you ever feel that conflict of "I can write this serious character well in long, thought out IC tags, but I also want fast food of them doing dumb texting hijinks in various memes or getting railed in psls and I hope no one judges me for it"?

I enjoy serious longform stuff too, but short dumb texting memes or handwavey porn plots are like my rp fast food: quick, convenient, and still delicious. I know I'm not being super IC and I often wind up stretching a lot of characterization just to keep the thread going, but I do enjoy it quite a bit.

I just don't want folks to avoid my character for serious threads if they see me acting like a fool with my friends in places like tfln. Idk why I'm so self conscious about that. Does anyone feel similarly?

Sometimes all I have time for during the week are silly texting things and handwaved porn plots. I love the thoughtful, detailed IC tags, but I just don't have time for them.

But then I worry about getting judged and/or people avoiding me because of that. I know there are people out there who will still write with me but I'm still nervous about being perceived

What do you generally consider part of an opt out, and what's considered acceptable to request?

Should character A (the optee) never tag character B (the opter)? Should A never tag posts on which B appears? Should A's player's other characters never mention A to B, e.g. during plot? Should other characters in-game know never to mention A to B? Should A never be mentioned on Plurk or Discord?

tl;dr what does an opt-out typically look like to y'all, and what should it not look like?

Oh yeah, I definitely feel this. I love the thought-out longform stuff, but I'm also a busy girl with ADHD so I end up just doing silly hijinks. I guess I feel like I'm letting myself and others down (all my past school teachers still live in my head lol) but I also have a blast with my RP partners so it all works out somewhere down the line.

Maybe I'm just having a dumb brain moment but am I correct in reading that A is the character that B opted out of playing with?

Assuming that mun B contacted mun A to opt out of character A, I think:

1) character B should never tag character A
2) character A should never tag character B
3) If A is running a little player plot, including character A, with like two other characters that brings all parties into close contact, such that it would be really awkward if B never interacted with character A, B should stay out of that plot
4) mun A should never have their other characters mention character A to mun B's characters. Maybe some wiggle room if the muns discuss and agree on this but let's just say if I were mun A I would be reaaaaaaaally reluctant to cross this line without clear and public agreement it would happen. I would also regard it as a one-off, not a blanket permission to talk about character A to mun B's characters.
5) I think if mun B NEVER wants character A mentioned to B's other characters by other characters in game played by muns C through Z, it is their responsibility to make that clear to their crmates in a way that is respectful of mun A.

It's probably fine if:
1) character A tags posts that character B also tagged as long as they don't interact on the post. I say probably here because rpers can be real shitheads and I can envision some weird edge case where it's not okay.
2) character A is mentioned on Plurk/Discord. In fact, I think it is a massive overstep on mun B's part if they expect character A to be persona non grata (such as it is) in ooc discussion. It's A's opt out, not everybody's.
