i can't sleep!!!

oh no anon! some tips from an insomniac: get out of bed and walk around a bit, have some tea or a glass of water, and then come back. put on a podcast or audiobook to distract your mind. try to ignore your clock or phone so you're not watching the time. the key is to stop thinking about trying to sleep. even if you're just lying there with your eyes closed it's still rest and it is still good for you.

just a few general scenarios I'd be interested in playing! open to ocs, and most of my canon characters are from drawn mediums. in all scenarios I'd be down for playing A or B - hit me up here if interested!

1) Orientation play. A is popular and he has a girlfriend he's crazy about. B is unremarkable, resentful, and has come into possession of some bullshit mind control device he can use to steal A away. Alternatively A's a total horndog, and B's the closeted gay guy who decides to "convince" A that he's secretly into guys.
2) Pseudo-corruption. Maybe A's a hero destined to save the world being seduced by a siren and spending the rest of his life protecting them. Or a noble being hypnotized into thinking some lovable rogue is far more deserving to rule than he is. Or just a straight-As student suddenly realizing doing the class clown's homework is a much bigger priority than taking care of his own.
3) A and B are best friends, only A's been distant as of late and B's starting to get concerned. Finally one day A asks to meet with B, and he's all too happy to accept. Thing is, A was hypnotized by a third party, and now they want A to help bring B into to the fold. Heavy on the betrayal angle, with A being convinced what he's doing to B is for the best and exploiting their friendship.

So something I've been pondering lately, fellow rp 'nons.

What is the point where you, personally, define something as headcanon versus canon-but-not-explicit?

Many canons will imply but not outright state certain facts about the characters; how strong does an implication have to be before it is functionally canon, or conversely, how weak would an implication be before it should be treated as headcanon to incorporate it in how you play a character?

Like, for example, if a canon focuses on a kid and shows them growing up with two parents that they address as 'Mom' and 'Dad' but doesn't delve much into the family structure, is it headcanon to assume that those are the kid's biological parents? To assume that they're married?

Hi I'm too lame to bother with a sock account but if you want someone else to do some test threads with, I'm more than happy to. Goes for anyone else lurking in this thread that's new to journal RP as well!!

I see the difference in terms of this: if you hear hoofbeats, assume horses, not zebras. Headcanon should not be something too out-there to have gone unmentioned in canon, and should fit the universe.

If a character is shown in canon to have a mom and dad who they address as such and never alludes to anything else, it'd be weird to assume they're not blood related to the character and married.

Heck, depending on the character, I wouldn't even consider "character was adopted and his adopted parents are divorced" headcanon, because that could impact that character's life to such an extent that I'd consider that an AU. Esp for characters whose family lineage plays a role in the story.
