This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

would it be weird to tag someone's bakerstreet toplevel like a week late? i'd opened up some toplevels to hit up last time i went browsing and then i blinked and and the last seven days were gone. still interested in tagging them... but now it feels a bit awkward.

I am always up for tag-ins as long as I made the effort to toplevel, but I'm aware there are some players who just hit post on as many memes as they can and forget about where they did it immediately after. If you're still interested a week later, maybe just put a note in the header like "if you don't mind a belated reply" or something?

Nonny this happens to me all the time especially when work demands overtime and I lose all sense of time until the weekend. I would accept and enjoy a tag to my top level a week and even 2 weeks out!! After that I have probably forgotten about it or moved on, being honest, but it never hurts to ask anyway!

Bakerstreet has been so full of fucking spam posts these days that I'd personally be stoked if someone tagged one of my top levels a week later. Hell I'd be stoked that they were even able to find me amidst all the repetitive spam.

yeah, a lot of them only get a few tag-ins and even fewer with any actual engagement, so it's a shame that all they do is push posts even further back making it harder to find people to play with. a lot of the memes being posted just feels like vindictive spamming at this point.

there's meme posters that have about four-five socks and post a meme each sock per day, so they take up most of the front page. i've seen proof of at least one that posted one meme after the other with different socks, but clearly fucked up in the c/p, because sock one posted (the a meme) and had the a meme posted, but sock two had (the b meme), but the meme was a c/p of the a meme. you also get into the habit of seeing which meme posters always seem to post in clusters/days and you start to figure it out.

What is even the point of this? It makes bakerstreet feel so dead because the front page is flooded with memes no one wants to play in that get single digit tag ins. If even the people who post the meme don’t want to play in it, why bother?

it's an idea, but i don't know if it would really be a valid one to follow. even if you change the repost time, someone's going to make something just off enough that 'it'll pass' and flood with that, so now there's five new memes that join the circulation of constant cyclical reposting.

someone on bs has too much time on their hands or is really anti-bakerstreet and is doing their best to just piss people off enough to stop playing there. since games are more limited, i have to wonder if it's something to do with that and someone is feeling like that's 'their space' now or something. idk.

That's the thing, the moderators clearly don't care. I wish they did because the spam is getting ridiculous. Looking at the calendar really puts it into perspective just how bad it is:

20+ posts in one day for memes that don't even get any play is just insane. I don't bother commenting to BS anymore because the post will just get lost at sea in a few hours anyway.

I feel like this could be easily fixed if they got some people to approve posts before they go on the comm, but BS mods don't seem interested in even that.

Honestly, I would love to moderate BS or an equivalent comm because it's getting ridiculous, but new comms are hard to get traction here in DW.

i would post to a new comm, and if it was actively moderated i would track it to top level and tag out too.

maybe you could go to the bakerstreet mods and politely be like, hey, i am thinking of making a community with a very moderated meme queue because i don't want to ask you guys to do more work but the spam here is overwhelming, can we collab? any tips? can i post links to those memes here?

i know they don't own the concept of memes but it feels like new comms have a better chance when theyre bakerstreet integrated just because so many people, links, guides, across this site, see "bakerstreet" as synonymous with memes and might not ever see anything outside of there.

+1, i would love it if there was some sort of daily post limit or at least some sort of post moderation controlling the flow. it would be great to see some sort of system in place that determines the frequency which a meme gets posted. alternatively, it would be nice if there was a way to reduce the memes that never get any traction yet still get posted constantly. like after so many strikes just tell that meme maker they're limited to posting that one meme monthly until it garners enough interest to be posted more frequently.

basically any change seems like it will only come from making a new comm (with blackjack and hookers), but like you said it is impossible to get new comms off the ground because everyone is so used to using the current one.

imo it's fine for posts that actually get traction to be reposted in 2 weeks. but if a post can't even crack 50-100 comments in those 2 weeks, it shouldn't be reposted

Is it as simple as that? Where to draw the line? 100 comments can come from one single thread, or 10 threads with 10 comment. What if there were "only" 49 comments when the requirement was 50? If we let 49 be enough, what about 48?

I can see people start arguing that a meme isn't worth posting if 2 weeks ago there was just one thread with 100 comments and all the other toplevels were empty. Soon there would be an argument that a meme needs to have at least 2 threads with a minimum of 50 comments, or 3 threads with at least 40 comments.

I sort of agree with you but I also fear it would end up in endless micromanaging and nitpicking.
