Rundown:

rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

it was unnecessary, yeah, but not so horrifying that it justifies spitting venom at anyone that dares to ask for game recs here or otherwise never mentioning games by name again.

i have no problem with private games, i do have a problem with people taking this one bit of drama as a sign we need to just stop talking about public games in public forever and eternity. reccing and hyping a game up helps it grow, actually.

similarly, people have stopped reccing favorites in games, because they feel the environment isn't conducive to positivity. if that happens to game namedropping too, it is what it is because we've brought it here.

idk you guys are behaving as if you get to decide when someone else feels comfortable talking about something here. you can scream til you're blue in the face that actually the majorityrules or w/e past incident wasn't big enough to warrant that discomfort, but it won't change how some people feel.

the bakerstreet thread in games discussion is literally full of people reccing faves on this very post

bakerstreet isn't a game

For the purposes of this discussion the bakerstreet thread is the same as a game thread unless you're arguing that the bakerstreet anons are separate and apparently nicer than game anons.

bakerstreet doesn't have the shared environment or crowd of a game, so of course you're much less likely to post you like someone only to have someone smash in with how they're so bad and annoying on plurk and said something in the game discord once

now your argument is that people who play in memes have never used those same journals in games

1) Bakerstreet is kinda of a shared environment, you couldn't have a bakerstreet thread if there weren't regulars.

2) That's not true at all, meme wank used to be so bad a few years ago (especially on wankgate) that there had to be an unofficial ban on namedropping eccentric but harmless accounts, and there's still a lot of that on wankgate.

3) If game anons really are that uniquely bad, then maybe the problem is the sort of people who play in games and not anonymity or the rpa community.

sure, and favorite characters/ships threads were rare for months otherwise, and pretending that's not the case would be stupid. you can't rush if or when people feel comfortable. that's the point. you don't get to decide for them. all you can do is help make or sustain an environment of positivity where they can feel comfortable posting.

it's the same with games, if they feel uncomfortable mentioning games now, it's not up to you to say Um Actually You Shouldn't Feel That Way, because you don't get to decide for them.

Have been in the bakerstreet thread and it's not that way on accident. anons have been making a concerted effort to discourage negativity in that thread since it went up

The prompt in the thread for it on this very post specifically is about gushing about things ppl are enjoying rn or looking forward to. The only "negative" comment in response to that is a humorous complaint about a different image being used from a meme than one they wanted.

This might be solved by a public forum like rpanons with accounts attached. You can't really keep ppl from socking up, but I'd really love to be able to gush about some of the invite games I'm in. People really can get in often if they just ask.

We don't really have that.
