personally i've never stopped being pissed off that the one time a paramedic shot me full of morphine, it turned out i had adhd so i couldn't feel the high. that would have been invaluable writing experience

yeah i deeply regret not sueing the surgeon. he took 45 mins to perform a procedure the oral surgeon who ended up on cleanup duty told me usually takes him 3-4 hours to do. he struck me as distinctly arrogant when i met him but my dad liked him so i thought he must be good.

he actually created the dry socket himself removing the packing. when i told him it was starting to hurt worse and bleeding a lot he didn't even have me open my mouth to look. left a shard of bone from the procedure knocking around in the other side too. it was razor sharp and about half the size of a pinky fingernail clipping. i'll regret losing the little baggie i put it in until the day that i die because that would have been the smoking gun if i brought it to court.

re: morphine i never knew that was a thing. i guess my ass is fucked if i ever get seriously hurt. maybe that's why i barely had any effects from the percoset they extremely reluctantly gave me? like zero mental effects, i was driving and everything.

sidebar: everyone treated me like shit when i came seeking medical attention, and when i had a literal golf ball sized swelling in the broken jaw come up within the span of about 4 hours and went to the ER to get an emergency CT scan in case it was an abscess, i described everything going on to the admitting nurse and even had the xrays on my phone (and, you know, a visible golf ball sized lump on my fucking face) and after i told my whole story she deadpanned "so you're here for drugs." verbatim. one other nurse at a dental practice i called said 'so you're looking for drugs?' and hung up on me when i was trying to find a dentist (i had just come up for college several hundreds of miles away from where the procedure originally happened).

they're literally so afraid to prescribe them that after the debridement by scalpel, when my nerves were exposed to open air, after a procedure which made my unanaesthetized friend throw up and try to fight the nurses and black out from the pain when he had it done - and for which the anaesthetic wore off before my taxi had even arrived to bring me home - i was told to take fucking ibuprofen and tylenol. most agonizing experience of my entire life. when i showed up for an emergency appointment the following day i had to shakily walk up to the nurse at the front desk and ask for a pillow to scream into. i was rocking back and forth in the middle of the waiting room despite my eternal fear of 'making a scene' or standing out or seeming weird. like i just did. not. care. the one thing i found is that you can reach a level of pain where everything else flies out the window entirely. i almost shoved an old person out of the way when i was going to the pharmacy desk (before i learned doc hadn't sent over any pain meds) because i was just so frantic to get something into my system and then was retroactively like 'what the fuck did i almost do'. talking helped; i couldn't watch TV because it wasn't immersive enough to hold my attention. vividly recall looking down at my legs when i was lying on the exam table waiting for the doctor and seeing them just shaking, which is apparently something the body can do with whole unrelated parts. time and perception of time are affected too, which i don't see people include in scenes where they're writing a character in extreme pain, as well as how external stimuli (like the light coming in the window of the exam room seeming blinding) can be warped.

re the percocet, it might explain it. to be clear i got the pain relief from the morphine, i just didn't feel high or out of it or any of the things my drug-using sister who was holding my hand expected me to feel. apparently it's an adhd thing
