To be entirely honest it depends on a lot of factors:

1. The character you're apping. If they're a big canon favorite, you'll most likely get a lot of CR. Apping into an established cast will often give you a big fast pass to a contract or the ability to have cast mates to fall back on regardless of the designation of your character in game. Smaller canons less so, but even some lone canon warriors get good CR if their character is likeable, active and engaging. If your character is engaging, people will want to rp with them and they'll build CR fast regardless of canon.

2. OOC - if you use plurk and or discord, you'll have an easier way of plotting OOC beyond the OOC posts and building up friendships with people in game is also really beneficial to creating a contract. You want to get to know people and their characters, and most people are pretty open about CR opportunities. Get a feel for your CR circles, dive in and make friends.

3. OOC Posts like the Dom/Sub finder go up every so often allowing for IC networking as well as OOC linking of your character's post there to allow people to know you need a contract (asap) and help facilitate that.

4. If your character doesn't manage it in 3 months they'll be "jailed" but you'll still be able to work on a contract if you haven't gotten it by then. Chances are you'll score one, but when apping in it helps to try and nail it by month 1-2 to be safe.
