a couple people in that circle frustrate me OOCly and I avoid interacting with them but I don't think the feedback is invalid, and I don't think they're the screaming minority the mods are bending to.

this conversation has been coming up for YEARS. look at the last few rpanons posts alone: the general perception of TLV is that it has a cool premise but has been whittled down to a slice of life jamjar. I've seen a lot of non-anon players outside of this circle express similar sentiments. the game is over ten years old and has never really been tightened up, of course a lot of rules and game mechanics have been gradually loosened. but there's a vocal minority that doesn't want to give up the setting-breaking perks their characters have been given over time (and over multiple mod teams) and they are always the ones who get catered to.

look at the response to the mistletoe meme, I think some of the comments are being overdramatic about it but the mods just came out and said that they disregarded the results of a vote that was overwhelmingly in favor of getting rid of it because a vocal minority loved it so much. that's what's happens whenever changes are proposed for years now and it is frustrating, especially when this poll looked like it was going to be different.

ex-player here: yeah, the advertisement does not match the product. from the outside it looks very interesting, but the actual game experience is more like a crack game of yore. the fact that they permanently retire characters with such gravity and respect vs what actually goes on in game only adds to the frustration.

on principle i think getting into multi-paragraph debates with dwrp mods over their games is embarrassing, but i do understand where they're coming from. it's painted like silent hill but it's just care bears under it.

there's always been crack and room for bonkers inmates and wardens at TLV tho, has been from the start. part of the appeal is the ability to app obscure characters that wouldn't otherwise fit in and then just seeing wtf happens

there's a weird pedestal TLV's been put on, but it's always been a wild card based on who gets apped.

considering that the game's got very light-hearted characters on the taken list as well as has had some exceedingly goofy events in the past few months, I honestly don't know how anybody can app in and expect everything to be all HBO prestige drama.

I'll be the first to admit that the blurbs and some of the info pages need a write-up, but I'm honestly surprised that people would app into TLV and expect super grimdark.

yeah, i can see wanting a different balance than we currently have but i'd literally never have called TLV anything like silent hill.

(...aside from that one time the boat went to silent hill.)

Tbh i don’t feel anyone is advocating for HBO prestige drama so much as curving the game back closer to the bones of the setting.

Those mean two different things though. Saying it's not Silent Hill is saying it's a false expectation that shouldn't exist. Saying it's not Care Bears is denying the whole thing and implying it IS silent hill

no it isn't lol. they're both hyperbolic extremes but you're defending against one but are fine with the other example, which was the negative/mocking one, because it lets you have cartoonish lack of consequences and mistletoe events that don't match the game info at all. which is why it's funny! :) hth.

i get that you don't want to touch mistletoe, but you should probably consider touching grass. you gettin real mad over something real silly.
