Sex Horror City

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not post personal information. This includes but is not limited to full names, addresses, phone numbers and so on.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

this has nothing to do with the discussion though. everyone has ways to narrow down who to tag. we're talking about people who have unconscious or not icon bias. coming in and talking about how you personally don't like some canons is completely unrelated.

I hear that. I guess what I was trying to say is that I consider myself someone without an icon or a medium bias, which gets reflected in the types of canons I choose to tag. Which, you know, would ideally be all of them, but I realized that's not strictly true in this case. I wanted to be honest about that.

In the end, I'm sorry if I ruffled your feathers. I think I could have just said that I don't really think I have a medium bias, but if I read that coming from someone else, I'd have my doubts for this exact reason. I was trying to cover my bases, not advertising negativity for canons as a whole, but I hope I'm at least understanding where you're coming from.

you didn't ruffle my feathers, I just don't understand why any of this is necessary to add to the conversation.

I think the person who replied to this comment after you has a good handle on what my mindset was. I honestly don't think I'm smart enough to sum it up another time, so I apologize if my answers haven't been sufficient.

as someone who read through this and appreciates your personal reflections and insight, (and also your calm demeanor!) i think it is always good to self reflect, especially if to examine a potential bias, but i also agree this may have been a better contribution to a general medium divide/tagging influence kind of discussion. a thin line of a difference in this case, but a lot of people have opinions and the discussion can go on long, for sure.

as it is i feel bad for op who asked a question and it inevitably exploded into medium divide pb-picking icon wank, which is at least relevant.

all still stupid at the end of the day, imo. a real and existing kind of stupid, but stupid.

Yeah, looking back, I can see where my premise was flawed. I think both you and the person replying to me summed it up pretty well, it just took me a few tries mentally to get it to click.

Thanks for your patient reply! I really appreciate it. :)

yeah no worries. i've done that myself too more than a couple of times; gotten carried away with self analyses thinking i was contributing to the discussion but it wasn't as relevant as i thought or just divergent enough that it'd better suited to a new conversation. i think rpa in general has gotten more hyper-focused on keeping conversations on-topic because diversion tactics are unfortunately a common tool for trolls. which is a good thing! we're all wiser to that and call it out immediately. plus we have a mod who steps in when needed. not that i'm accusing you of being a troll, i just think that's a result of the tighter-conversation mentality we have around here now.

so in a way i hope there's another opportunity for you to talk about this again too and share your feelings, but on the other hand i also hope we don't... need to talk about icon wank or medium divide ever again. i thought we were kind of over this circa 2019/2020 since it hadn't been wanked about in a while (not that this is a "big wank" by any measure) but i guess not

Totally understandable! In retrospect, I did leave RP when medium divide was a huge deal, so it's still on my mind in a lot of ways.

I feel that last paragraph, LOL. The challenges of wanting to talk about a problem without intensifying it... It's definitely not fun to navigate that.
