Rundown: rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

i reply to tags by clicking 'parent' in a new window then on my top levels go to 'thread from start' to make sure i got everybody who responded. takes ten seconds. i only ever visit the inbox to clear it out.

It's honestly blowing my mind that this many people reply straight from an e-mail or the site inbox. I just can't do it that way.

dw inbox i can at least understand, but e-mail just strikes me as being a nightmare if you play more than one character or in more than one game. no wonder so many people lose tags all the time.

yeah, it's beginning to make a lot of sense now why some people can't keep track of the most basic details in a thread. and why they misfire in the weirdest ways or leave incomprehensible piles of html vomit up for hours without fixing it.

for real. i was legitimately baffled by how many people i know seem to constantly lose notifs or forget to tag things back, but if that's how they try to keep track of their threads, then it's no surprise at all.

i think you guys are having a big misunderstanding of what i meant when i said i don't check the comments. when i said i used email it doesn't mean i used the reply box on the email. the notif gives you a link to the thread, i click on it and the thread opens on another window. i do reread details if necessary. but i open only the threads that i got notifs for (double checking with my dw inbox), not the entire post.

this subthread started because someone said they don't buy that "maybe they missed a notif" excuse because the posters are scrolling and checking the comments. no, that's dumb. i don't scroll through an entire post just to reply to one thread.

right, but if you're at least checking your toplevel (or a post in a logs comm) then it should be obvious who tagged into you. so no, i'm not really buying it either. you do you, everyone has their own style, but it really is pretty obvious if you're intentionally skipping over someone.

on a post? no, it's not obvious. what part of it opens a link to the thread and not the entire post you don't get? you only see the one thread. not all the comments to the post. it's like clicking the "game discussions" link here on the rpa navigation. you won't see the "canon discussions" or "pb suggestions" threads.

i guess if you never ever check your own toplevels/posts for any reason, then maybe? like i said, it's fine if you have a different style, but it's very easy to tell when someone's being blown off that way. i think we're gonna have to agree to disagree here, so i'll just leave it at that.

right after i posted it to check it looks ok? yeah.

just scrolling down for the sake of it the following day? no, what for? if i reread to revisit my rp it will be sometime later when the threads are advanced. or like i already said, if i need refreshing, i read the thread when i open it to tag it. it doesn't open the entire post.

see, given the notif fuckery we've been having with dw lately, if i make a post or a toplevel i make sure to check in on it from the top every couple of days just to make sure i didn't miss any notifs for anything in it.

the only reason i could see this being a legit issue is if you're the type that categorizes your emails (in gmail at least) as conversation view instead of unticking that box. conversation view was the only setting that i ever had in email that resulted in me losing my own notifs or shuffling them poorly. with that unticked, each tag comes in as its own notif instead of being added to some other notif.

conversation view is the devil and if you have it on, i can actually see why you'd find replying from email as confusing. otherwise, you've lost me.
