i realized fairly recently that i'm a person who tends to do better with quicker, shorter tags rather than always having longer ones with a good deal of introspection in every tag. generally it's the thing that gets me tripped up on writing tags, and more often than not it ends up turning up into "oh ill do that tag tomorrow when im in the right headspace" and then its two weeks later and i dont want to look at it anymore because i feel bad for letting it stagnate. when it comes naturally, like when its a more meaty scene or whatever, then i have no problem getting something longer out, but generally i tend to be a person who cant wax poetic when saying it in a few sentences of bracket text does the job.

obviously if its nothing replies that dont push a conversation or give you something to reply with on a constant basis, then that's one thing. just kind of depends on what everyone's lookingfor.

Same here. I ended up dragging threads out for ages because I couldn't force myself to write long tags when I was tired or not in the right headspace, and as a result it turned into exactly what you said: "I'll do that tag tomorrow." And then I was tired or not in the right headspace tomorrow, so I pushed off doing that tag again, etc. and eventually I just lost the energy for that thread completely because it had been so long. It's one thing when it's a PSL and you've both committed to the thread so you don't mind if replies take a while, but that's a pretty good way to kill game or meme threads because no one wants to wait a week or more for a tag in those settings. I was torpedoing myself and didn't even realize it.
