that's understandable. i can see why it might be disappointing to put so much work into a game and have it not get the attention you think it deserves. but it does say a lot about a mod team who will give up so easily on a playerbase that's still fairly active, even if it is slow. the tdm had activity and so did the reserves for the next round, it's not like it was totally dead.

i hope someone picks it up to carry on like the mods said they were open to since it's a neat premise.

agreed. apparently if you don't attract noctium-tier attention and/or app olympics you may as well throw in the towel these days.

fair. i just think it's unreasonable to character assassinate mods when there's a huge difference between "we were planning on 50 and got 15, this won't work for what we have prepared" and taking your toys home because your game didn't blow up to noctium size.

i'm not in the game though, so i don't know the circumstances or what the activity levels are like

i think this would've went over better if they were open and honest about the state of the game and gave a bit more time for improvement. instead i get the impression they kinda blindsided people with this announcement so it's not surprising there's some lingering salt.

maybe it's best for them on a personal level to just cut the cords, but i totally get the salt

the last state of the game update has some veiled references to the game being smaller and slower than they intended. they changed some of the ac requirements and removed character caps and so on to accommodate the smaller game, but there wasn't really a hint that they were prepared to just close the game instead of continuing unless it picked up.

i think if they'd said that the game needed new blood and asked players to help advertise it they could have had some results, i know of a few people on my plurk list who mentioned they were thinking of joining soon and that may have encouraged them to app.

if the mods are also playing in the game (i don't know who they are), they may have hoped to get more activity for their OWN ENJOYMENT as well as to keep the game lively. maybe they felt like they were giving more than they got. i do think they might've wanted to give it a little more time though, it seems their tdm was moving and people were growing in interest, it hasn't been open that long. games can bounce back and get more players with good word of mouth.

but end of the day it is their game and if it's not making them happy, they don't have to continue modding it.

could also be something with the modding situation, given that they went from 3 to 2, and less players means the mods have to work harder to keep them engaged. if one of the mods suddenly moved/got a new job/got sick/had their home wiped out from one of the natural disasters that would bring it down to 1 mod keeping everyone happy.

and if it's your plot mod that quits... oof

at least they closed the game instead of belligerently wanking on their own players for not playing the way they wanted them to

games don't have to be noctium sized to be successful and enjoyable. most aren't in fact.
