Catboy Boyfriends 'R Us

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not post personal information. This includes but is not limited to full names, addresses, phone numbers and so on.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

Same hat. Can't even get responses on "who we're logged in as" level icebreaker/conversational plurk memes let alone rp plans.

Quit plurk. Seriously. It feels like social death at first but seriously about 2 days after I quit olurk my tag drive came back from the war and I was having twice the fun. My CR didn't go anywhere and all the time I spent having fomo on plurk and "plotting" threads that never happened went to doing my tags and tagging out and I ended up with way more CR than before I quit.

Thanks cell phone.

honest question because i see this sentiment around, and plurk mutuals sometimes make bizarre (imo) plurks freaking out about being overwhelmed by plurk or having fomo anxiety over it: why? do people sit on plurk 24/7 reloading and reading everything, watching their own plurks and timing replies, comparing response volume?

not shaming anyone for not liking a social media app, i just really don't get how it can cause so much hand-wringing when all you have to do is not look at it until you want to?

If you have even an inkling of a compulsive disorder it can be really satisfying. I've mostly learned to recognize when I get caught like that, but not everyone has gotten to that point in their shit where they know what to look for and know to stop.

I'm sure there are plenty of other reasons and FOMO is definitely a huge one.

it's addictive. you get a tiny "high" every time you see an unread plurk or (even better) get a reply to yours. that builds up until you're constantly chasing that next hit. even if you don't have any sort of mental health issue that can be true, it's just how the human brain works and social media is designed to tap right into that. there's a reason why plurk's designers made it so you get a little notif every time something updates. they knew what they were doing.

as for the FOMO that's usually down to anxiety and lack of self-esteem when someone starts assuming everything is about how much their friends like them as a person. if you polled the DWRP community and asked how many people have anxiety, officially diagnosed or not, the numbers would be very high.

idgi either. i check in on it a few times a day during my breaks at work so i end up maaring a lot and that doesn't seem to hurt the number of replies i get to stuff at all.

If someone just isn't getting replies to their plurks at all, there's very little effort involved in keeping track of low engagement. This might not be OP's case but I've seen a timeline or two where it's all the plurker and their own replies are all they get.

tbh this is the route im planning to take. will scour my timeline to save tidbits or threads i have there but after that? ill log out and stick to hmds and pms.

I like plurk for the community aspect of it; knowing the players I'm threading with makes threading more fun for me.

If you don't want to quit, keep your timeline tight and respond to other people's plurks. Use social media hygiene to make it a positive experience instead of an anxiety inducing one. I'm brutal about unfollowing or unfriending people who aren't adding anything to my timeline and muting anything I'm uninterested in, and it's mad plurk much more positive for me.

adding that blocking people you 100% don't want to deal with at all works wonders.

echoing others in the sentiment of distancing yourself from plurk. You don't have to completely quit it but I found once I managed how much I engaged with it, it was better for me.

These days I rarely make my own plurks and use it more as a newsfeed to keep up to date with what people are up to here and there and occasionally respond.
