Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

offsite advertising

just sort of a general pulse check if you will

1 - if we were to start advertising games off of dreamwidth, what platforms do you think would be a good candidate? I've heard reddit, are there specific subreddits? specific discords?

2 - would anyone be interested in joining a sort of advertising campaign team to bring in new blood and new life to dreamwidth?

3 - would anyone be interested in just creating the templates for advertisements for games for these other platforms?

4 - any additional thoughts or opinions?

tumblr could be worth a shot. since it's more mellow now, they might have an easier time adjusting to dwrp's pace than twitter rpers.

There are a lot more tumblr roleplayers already here who've seamlessly made the transition than I think dwrp as a community realizes. I'm one of them. I know we have our stereotypes about tumblr rp but for every weirdo that community has there are as many normal, sane roleplayers with decent writing and characterization who simply don't know dreamwidth is an option (and many of them are sick of the weirdos over there, too).

Also one of them, I would definitely be sure to hit tumblr. I absolutely think there are a lot of people who would make or at least try out the jump, but who aren't aware of the site/would really benefit from having some basics laid out for them. I wouldn't have known there was any rp scene on this website at all had a friend not introduced me to a specific game.

I'm not talented enough by way of graphics or coding to feel offering my help on that front would be of any use, but I could probably drum up a sock and share a little logistical advice/setup things (picking a blog theme that wouldn't be a pain to edit and cleanly display information, minor tips on making sure a post doesn't get flagged or mobbed with bots and real people see it, maybe ideas about how to smooth the site-culture transition, etc); definitely not to condescend, but I've heard a lot of confusion about how tumblr rp works that I imagine might extend to site mechanics themselves. So just if such a thing were needed! In any case ads on tumblr wouldn't need to be super dressy anyway, something like most games have in their profile would be fine - graphic, premise, rules/faq/maybe tdm links, and another separate one to an on-blog sort of 'dwrp for dummies' basics page

I've thought about doing this kind of thing myself, so I really hope you get a group together and something comes of this!

Would be the best places to start, they function a bit like enablemeplz for one-on-one and (usually discord-run) game ads. It's mostly OCs, but fandom players are there too, you just have to hunt a bit.

Cons:

The community is more acquainted with bragging about word counts and how highly literate they are. There's a LOT of players who will write you 1000 words per tag but be That Kronk in terms of quality of grammar, substance, readability, etc. IC/OOC divide can be nonexistent.

ayrt tbh I think 1 good quality is worth 20 bad ones, and even the bad ones will appeal to our poor tier here.

the number of people there who care about the gender of their rp partner is a huge turnoff. all those M4Fs, yikes. the context makes it clear they're not talking about the characters genders and even if it's a gen ad i automatically assume they're looking for internet girlfriends.

reddit is 99.9% straight dudes. i know flist has a reputation for ic/ooc line blurring, but the few times i tried reddit proved to be a whole other level. the crowd there has a big overlap with discord tho, and i'm betting that's where the next big revival of rp will be... so it might be worth dealing with a couple neckbeards just to get dwrp more widely recognized.

my eyes automatically skim over m4f posts. there are plenty of women who don't want to play with guys

4. the connection/symbiosis between plurk and dreamwidth has to be made more clear at some point. i don't think people outside the community realize just how interlinked the two are.
