Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

is there a list of helpful html anywhere for posting? i know the basics but curious to learn more.

especially one i've seen around where people put the icons in the post and the text is in another table to the right? idk how to explain it but i can't find the example anywhere.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-31 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
That's usually being done with the DW tools add on for firefox/chrome.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-31 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
teach me, senpai.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-31 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
be aware that using the usepic trick can screw up the threads underneath yours by pushing stuff around on the page

(Anonymous) 2020-05-31 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
oh :( i definitely don't want to do that

(Anonymous) 2020-05-31 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, it's not a big deal on longer threads but on top-levels or un-collapsed threads it causes problems. you sound like a considerate anon so maybe someone else with the dl link will share and you can use it carefully.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-31 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
please don't. just passively beg for a paid like everyone else does.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-31 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
besides what the above anon said, is there anything else wrong with using the code?

just out of curiosity. also don't think i can beg for someone to give me paid time

(Anonymous) 2020-05-31 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
it's just a pet peeve of mine. it looks bad and it's distracting.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-31 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
that is understandable and i appreciate the feedback, anon.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-31 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
i don't understand the difference. the icon is pretty much in the same place relative to the text. people actually pay for this nonsense?

(Anonymous) 2020-06-01 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
what kind of question is that? yes, people pay for things they enjoy. if they didn't your dumb, freeloading ass wouldn't have anywhere to park itself and fart out this stupidity.

This was given here in March (if it is what you want):

img src="URL" style="float:left;"

With < > on both sides, of course.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-31 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
thanks anon, i really appreicate it!

just came back from a long hiatus so i'm feeling a bit out of date, lol.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-31 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
not quite the one i saw, but it works and i'll likely only use it in psl stuff.

the one i saw on bakerstreet kept the text from being under the icon, i may go digging around for it.

This is the one I use. You should definitely get a paid account if you can, though, because it's pretty cheap and Dreamwidth is a great site that deserves the support. But I think it's dumb to judge people for using the iconcheat, especially when there are plenty of valid reasons to want to use an icon without putting it on your journal (temporary appearance changes like bodyswap events, voicetesting a character but an icon really sells the tag, whatever). Do what works for you, anon.

Whoops lol, tried to use the code as an example and forgot anons can't post images. Well, whatever! You get the idea.

sa again

And now I'm realizing the code doesn't seem to have stayed in the textarea at all... let's try this again.

(Anonymous) 2020-05-31 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
thank you, anon, i really appreciate it. normally i buy paid time for my more active accounts, but we just got the email friday that we are officially on furlough for my job and not sure when we are going back. so put a damper on spending money on rp for the moment.

+1 that the icon-cheat is fine and don't feel bad about using it! not everybody has the disposable income for paid accounts all the time!!

but also-- pls feel free to pm me your username if you feel comfortable doing so, you were a friendly anon & i wanna buy u some paid time ♥

(Anonymous) 2020-05-31 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, the problem with this is that if it's used as a header in a top level or even as a reply to a top level, unless that gets replied to by the poster, it causes a glitch in the next comment down.

https://bakerstreet.dreamwidth.org/6377247.html

scroll down. you'll see a live example of what happens when you use the code. it puts a gap there that's as long as the space from the icon. i'm not sure how that would translate to a longer thread with that used and the comment under it. someone may want to experiment with that in their own journal.
