i've played from star wars before so world details and history aren't a problem for me, but i'm super intimidated by the thought of playing a character that a) is very well known and b) has countless dissertations and analyses of his personality out there + a shitload of history. i plan on playing him from the prequels + some of the EU novels, not tcw (mostly just to narrow it down) but i'm quite nervous. any advice?

You've already done the work I'd recommend, which is clearly noting which parts of non-movie canon you are (or aren't, depending on which is easier) using. Unfortunately, due to how the canon is set up, it can lead to Too Many Cooks, so interpretation will vary wildly depending on what you acknowledge and what you don't, so it's better to note it so tagging partners know what they can expect to reference/see referenced or what to avoid.

I can't help but feel like you're screwing yourself over a little if you refuse to consume TCW while playing Obi-Wan. There are a lot of castmates out there in DWRP who play TCW-only characters, and who would have significant CR with Obi-Wan that developed over the course of TCW, and would expect you to be canon familiar. Certainly, I know I wouldn't play with an Obi-Wan who hadn't watched TCW, since it informs such a large part of his character, history, and relationships. But that's just me!

yeah, like just in terms of what is considered canon now the EU/Legends books were thrown into their own universe while TCW remains canonical.

if it would help, I'm familiar with the show and can share the best arcs to watch for Obi-Wan in the show. TCW is an anthology and it's very easy to jump around. the show is much more focused on anakin and ahsoka compared to obi-wan, so you can zero in on the arcs he plays importance in.

sorry, should've clarified that i meant in the immediate! i'm watching tcw but it's taking me a while and i don't want to say that i'm also playing him from that part of canon before i've completed it/am at least comfortably familiar with it.

Aha! Yes okay, that makes more sense, LOL! (I have run into people who play from the prequels and refuse to engage with TCW because "It's a kids show" before though, so. Hahhhh. More common than you'd think!) But yeah, TCW is long so I don't blame you for that.
