Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

Persistence. You'll only find good ones if you keep trying anything, that's how you meet more people in the hobby. Those people you get on with can then invite you on to other games.

Roll20 or meetup as other people said. I use meetup for irl games, but at the moment we're running those online. Am sure other groups are doing the same.

as above, meetup is a dud in my area, but its good advice for others

i know plenty of people who play dnd and who know id love to play too, is the thing. im just never the one invited, which i dont mind but goddamn do i wanna play

i guess ill just have to buckle the fuck up and do roll20 cold calls regardless of how i feel about the grab bag of randoms

da

Have you specifically asked the people you know if you can join next time they start a new game? It might feel silly/unnecessary if they're aware you're interested, but honestly as someone who's GMed a lot, I tend to fill my table with people I've played with in the past long before I get to the open call stage, so I'm a lot more likely to invite someone who's straight up asked me for a seat at the table than I am to do the rounds of people who've expressed a general interest in maybe playing sometime.

it doesnt feel silly tbh, beyond the omnipresent terror of asking people out of the blue for things

which is most of the problem ill admit. id like to say i have bluntly asked people before, but it was still in that "open plurk about really wanting to play a game if anyones got a spot free" sense and id have no idea how to go about specifically asking someone without a direct line of conversation leading into it

but thats getting into a whole mess of interpersonal "go touch grass you numpty" issues

Obviously I don't know your friends and how they'd respond, but personally I'd be fine with just a straight up, "hey, could I join your next game?" dropped into my plurk the next time I'm chatting about one of my games or tabletop in general.

What is it you're looking for out of a game? (Not trying to be aggressive here, just trying to get a sense of what type of experience you're interested in.)

Next time you do that, ping the people you know are running games. "I'd love to find a game, I know X and Y run games. Will you guys have any new ones with spaces? Is anyone else going to run?"

They might not even have seen your first plurk.
