rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

jsyk it's not normal to feel "threatened" by someone else roleplaying a character you didn't create

considering how many people come to this exact community with variations on this feeling it seems pretty normal to me. normal doesn't mean ideal/functional. it's just a thing that happens.

acknowledging it happens doesn't mean supporting it.

OP says they know it's irrational and that they don't intend to actually bother anybody over it. why are you going to browbeat them for experiencing a feeling you don't like? if they're not acting on it and they know they need to work on it, then there's no reason to be a dick about it. sometimes talking it out is what helps people get over it.

everyone is so quick to be like YOU MAY NOT FEEL AT ALL POSSESSIVE OF THE CHARACTER YOU WRITE THAT IS HIGHLANDERING AND IT MAKES YOU THE IMMEDIATE DEVIL

yo it's normal to feel insecure about something you're invested in. what matters is whether or not you can acknowledge it and act appropriately / check yourself.

exactly this. this goes for any negative emotion whether or not it's RP related. it's not a crime to feel things, it's about how you choose to act on those feelings.

it's also not productive to antagonize people who are trying to talk out their feelings when they haven't done anything wrong. it usually just makes them want to bury it, and burying it means they're a lot less likely to eventually deal with it/get over it.
