Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

about the third semester events:

if put in a new environment without any phantom thieves in the game, would early third semester akechi act like..... well, akechi, or would he try and put on a first/second semester face? i could buy him turning the prince act back on if he finds he wants the social privileges it gives him, but i could also see him not giving a fuckkkkkkk because he can no longer get what he wanted out of it (the pleasure of destroying shido).

i think you could argue either way, but i want to hear from others.

Short answer: I personally think he would lean more towards his pleasant persona, but ultimately be less concerned about hiding his cynicism or playing nice with people he dislikes.

Longer answer: You could go with either option, but it depends entirely on the jamjar setting he's in. He is very rude and aggressive in the 3rd semester because he's furious about having his autonomy violated and his choices invalidated. So in an environment where a distinct entity (like a god, supercomputer, mysterious organization or any of the other typical jamjar powers that be) brought him back to life he'd likely be feeling a similar level of contempt for the situation. On the flip side, you could easily play him as being calmer and more willing to meet people halfway in a game where whatever brings him back to life is a natural force with no consciousness guiding it.

Regardless, I wouldn't lean too hard into him being an asshole. Even during the 3rd semester he has moments where he's more pleasant to be around (e.g.: he's somewhat considerate of Yoshizawa's inexperience and has a few Mementos conversations where he's borderline nice to the rest of the party) so it's not like he's incapable or unwilling to be at least sort of nice even when there's no direct benefit to him.

My best advice is to pick whatever post-Shido motivation you think makes the most sense for him (would he drift aimlessly because he has no goal? Try to start over with the new perspective he gained from Akira? Refuse to change out of spite for whatever brought him back this time?) and build from that. So as long as you don't go all the way with either 'broken sad woobie who just wants to be loved' or 'remorseless asshole that hates everything and everyone', there's a lot of valid takes on him. Consistency is more important than anything else.

the other anon already gave a lot of good advice, but i'll add this:

don't fixate too much on akechi's "don't-give-a-fuck" attitude in the third semester. a lot of his attitude in the third semester stems from his circumstances there, and specifically from what he suspects is the case for him - as far as he knows, at best his reputation and social standing are likely done for because of his association with shido, and at worst he's literally living at someone else's whim when he should be dead. he drops his usual masks because he at that point he essentially has nothing left. if you placed him in, say, a game where he could still build up a life and a reputation for himself again, this almost certainly wouldn't be true anymore.

beyond that, it's worth keeping in mind that the prince act wasn't just to further his plans too. like he says before his boss fight, he's been playing the part people want him to his entire life just to get by and so someone would want him around; it's fairly ingrained in his behavior overall, and even in the third semester he still slips into it a bit in specific conversations with the party members (most obviously in his interactions with yoshizawa, but also some of his mementos- and safe room convos) and his earlier interactions with that arc's antagonist. unless you're planning on putting him in a setting where sticking to his ruthless side would somehow be more beneficial, he's much more likely to slip back into the prince act (at least to some extent) than not, just because it's how he's used to living his life.

if you haven't yet, i'd suggest taking a look at his jazz club scenes, both when he first joins and during the third semester! both sets give some valuable insight into him as a person, and even though the first set happens while he's keeping up the prince act, there's still a lot of his later personality shimmering through in those events (and i'd argue the same is true for most of his new confidant ranks too).

while it's clearest in the jazz club scenes thanks to having two sets, imo it's also worth going over his earlier scenes again with his later personality in mind. the divide between him in the third semester and him earlier in the game isn't actually that drastic - the main difference is that he acts more polite, will flatter people to curry favor, and sometimes acts faux-humble (especially if it helps with flattery), but beyond that there's a lot of overlap with how he acts in the third semester. he's still pretty competitive, he still has a bit of a childish/bratty streak, he can occasionally be bitter or passive-aggressive, he's still a haughty showoff in battle with his blood knight tendencies shimmering through every once in a while, and so on. once you get a feel for picking out those traits even in the earlier parts of the game, you'll have a much easier time sorting out how much of an act he might put up in a different setting.
