Qui Gon Jinn | Star Wars

I think this would be my first 'serious' character in Star Wars. I am interested in this character because he focuses in the spiritual, emotional, and philosophical aspects of the Force, rather than the dogmatic or institutional. Lately I've been charmed by him, especially due to the things I've studied in oriental philosophy from both buddhism and taoism.

However, I honestly don't know what or where to start with him in regards to works to check out. I haven't decided yet if I want to focus either on Legends or Disney, but I will probably have to focus on the later.

I already know of the novel Master and Apprentice, but other than that, what works should I absolutely read to get a grip on his history and personality? And likewise, if you know of Star Wars, what are your observations on him?

way back in the day when I wrote Jedi fic, I found the most difficult but also most rewarding part of Qui-Gon was balancing his wise side with his troll side. He has a sense of humor, it's very dry but it's obvious, and he doesn't have a problem messing with people if by doing so he can stir them to act on their own. it's a very subtle sort of manipulation compared to straight up mind-tricking someone. think, how he played Watto. he went toe to toe with a guy who basically lives, eats, and sleeps black market and won.

the living Force side that he prefers is a go-with-the-flow style, so in playing him, you do have to sort of be keen on what the other player's character is doing and saying. on the plus side, it means you don't have to pre-plan all the time, you can seize on a random comment and run with it, but that also means being attentive to those sorts of things so you don't miss an opportunity. ngl he was enjoyable to write in fic because I controlled all outcomes but I can imagine that would be harder in RP if you're not spontaneous enough.

can't help on resources though, I only ever wrote him when the only canon was the movie and like the first three Master/Apprentice books before they went all YA bullshit and most of fandom chucked the in the bin. good luck, and I hope to see him around because I have a few weird crosscanon characters who would be great to interact with hm.
