Posting this because I got a random idea and just sort of feel like talking about it, for shits.

Arabian nights vibe. Set in a kingdom surrounded by desert dunes, though the kingdom itself is thriving and bustling. Bazaar, spice market, red light district, gardens, etc. Very jewel toned.

When characters arrive they are encouraged to blend in and not let people know they’re from another world. They’d be found by one of four important npcs, each who will offer a bargain with your character during acceptance. It’s up to you if they choose or decline, and the answer will influence the plot.

Day to day would be slice of life, but there’s an overarching plot and events. Characters who are dropped don’t go “home” — you’d have to decide what happens to them on the drop post.

Characters have to work discreetly in the setting. There would be magic, intrigue, and a sultan that no one had seen in a good ten years.

Something like that.

this is an interesting idea but sounds like it might (if you're not reeeeally careful) come dangerously close to Orientalist tropes that might be offensive to some potential players.

i would say a good way to off-set this might be to frame it as fantastic and remove anything that might seem too realistic. we've had games in dwrp for years that have played loosely with cultural ideas. (maybe not even that loosely, as Yoshiwara Nights was set in a real city in the Edo period.)

i don't think it should be out of bounds to fictionalize up a vaguely middle eastern world the way we fictionalize up other worlds/settings, but i do agree that some thought here on how to frame it would be a good idea.

You both have good points! I’m never going to do it since I just don’t have time, but for theory sake it would be fantastical and definitely fictional. My first real thought was kind of like Aladdin or something, but not exactly that either.
