rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Because I see them rping with other people on Bakerstreet so yeah, pretty sure it's me.

i feel that. and when i mentioned it to the other player they flipped out, said i was stalking them, and cut contact.

this can and often does come off as pushy and stalky. if someone's making any kind of excuse not to tag you or just ignoring you and you come in with a 'gotchya' moment because it's a public comm, you're not reading the room well. in a game, totally acceptable to call someone out for either stringing you along or ignoring you. on memes? not cool.

there've been a few people who've bullied/harassed people to the point they stopped playing publicly because they couldn't tag someone without this one person coming in to pm them and tell them they're also owed a tag because they see x playing with y on the same meme/another meme. calling out someone over how they spend their free time isn't cool.

a jessica hamby/Karen page player did this to several players before she was finally run out of the community for a couple of years. she'd pm people over meme tags and escalated to namedropping them on wankgate and stalking them through plurk

i went through this with a matt murdock/natasha romanoff/claire temple player that kept crossing canon/comic lines and getting mad people wouldn't play along. don't put mcu and then get mad when someone doesn't know you're going comic, hasn't read comic, and doesn't want to play comic. and then pm and have a pretty childish meltdown over it. this person did this to me and at least five other people i know. they also used to constantly plurk/harass someone via pm any time they saw them active with any character if they weren't tagging them. it was horrible.

I've met too many comic players in this hobby that are like that. Forum rp, dwrp, lj, marvel or dc, doesn't matter the medium or the franchise. the condescension that you don't keep up with obscure comic trivia, their endless rants about how much the comic sucks due to whatever editor was in charge during five years of a forty+ year run, suddenly pulling a fast one in games and referencing some retconned history that wasn't on their app in order to "win"

the weird jealousy if their character has a live action counterpart that just exists

ah yes because your bad experiences obviously means that everyone who plays from that medium is also like that

I got flaked on by an anime player once clearly all anime players are fickle flakes with bad grammar

this was a person that admitted to not having read the comic lines, but wanted to play them because of shipping angles they'd heard about. it was a weird way to come at it, and their insistence on mcu chars with mcu pbs (or netflix chars/pbs) but wanting to just randomly insert comic lines and expect knowledge and acceptance because they wanted it were incredibly baffling. and annoying.

i get using comic background to fill out some mcu dceu history, because it doesn't always go into detail for apps and stuff, but when it directly contradicts the canon you're professing to play from, don't do that. or if it deviates enough that a mcu/dceu player isn't going to recognize or grasp that offhand because you're playing the mcu/dceu version, don't flip a table over confusion or need to clarify. or a negation on wanting to go that route. people who want to play comic lines or who are open to them say so. (note witcher canon players from netflix usually stating in comments whether they're game/book/series familiar or open to).

this person just rubbed me the wrong way and they were rude and harassing about it, so i've carried a bit of a dislike for that kind of behavior.

Haven't you heard the excuses why such PMs can't be sent? Because apparently no one takes them well, and everyone who receives such a message is a wanker who will just drag the other RPer all over wankgate.

Even if it appears to be the opposite.

but why did you bring up any other threads at all? if you're checking in to see if someone has lost interest in a thread, there are plenty of ways to do it that don't involve bringing up other things they're rping.

I dunno. I guess being told "I'm not feeling it" when they're playing the exact same scenarios with other people is a bitter pill to swallow. I brought it up on the context of "what's different about our threads" in an effort to learn/improve my own play and ended up making them mad.

but what they're playing with other people doesn't matter. any combination of things could make somebody say "i'm not feeling it" about a thread. i could play the exact same scenario with 5 different characters and feel varying levels of interest and investment because people write differently, character personalities are different, my own mood changes, etc.

just a passerby but i can see both sides here? like on one hand yes what other people write has absolutely nothing to do with you and no bearing on what you write with them. but i think we can all agree that seeing someone play with someone else when you want to play too hurts and asking what you can change in an attempt to grow or correct something that may be wrong isn't bad. did op go about it the wrong way? probably. but i can't really fault someone for wanting to try to improve so that part of it i can understand. just maybe not the best way to approach it.

Just because I want to go to the movies with Karen and Debra this week instead of with Jan doesn't suddenly mean I hate Jan. But if Jan started harping on me because I dare have an interest in making other friends, I'd find her clingy and creepy.

And we're not even talking friends here, this is a stranger you tagged with on a meme.

nine times out of ten i'm perfectly fine with jan but the moment she starts with that clingy, creepy, entitled behavior she's just gone and made herself a self-fulfilling prophecy
