Rundown:
rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-25 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)rp games based on life sims are always brought up whenever one new video game in that genre comes out - it's happened with animal crossing nl too, but also stardew valley and harvest moon (i know AC isn't farming but the general feeling people want for this rp game is the same, characters moving to this little town and chill). in fact, SV and HV have had attempts. the reason why the game the first anon linked didn't work is, like anon that replied said, because it had a musebox structure, which people don't go for - apps and ac are a need to keep a game alive.
but most importantly, the reason why these games don't really work is because 100% SOL games in general don't work in current dwrp. emphasis on 100% - empatheias is pretty chill, but even it has some plotty events and some exploration to do, characters can also learn emotions magic. prismatica is half sex game and people stay in it for the shipping. hugtopia is barely living, because hugging games like what eudio started (had tons of clones) have also not been working for the same reason.
if you wanna do an AC game, it has to have some kind of catch other than "character moves here and starts a new life". hell, AC already is a meme in vidya, the game where you do nothing (please note that i'm not saying it's true, just that it's the joke in fandom).
to start, don't be literally following AC to a tee (which is a problem I have with R29 for example, they take video game mechanics too literal some times). unless you wanna make it a survival game, the starting town should already be developed and have npcs in it. i'm not saying you need to play the npcs as a mod, just generic city dwellers that go to shops. in fact, in the case of animal crossing and stardew valley, people can take the npc ideas from there.
there has to be jobs to do other than farming and shaking trees and fishing etc. put a theater for the artists, and a restaurant for the chefs, etc. bust most importantly there is that catch i mentioned, so make it for example that the boat in AC every month takes you to a new island to explore and bring new things to the town. or maybe the town is in the middle of some continent, and the newcomers help the town expand and grow. that way you can use the heroes to protect the borders and the scientists can do stuff like building a train.
transforming the characters into the cute animals isn't an awful idea but i don't know how well received may be, that would be up to a mod to decide how much they want the game to have it because they like it vs wanting people to come. dwrp likes transformations but usually they have some humanoid shape as a basis, or are used for horror and/or sexy settings. going full "you are a cute little dog now" is different.
keeping or nerfing powers can also be a very complicated thing, especially if not new abilities are earned in exchanged. some nerfing would be needed for sure, but full nerfing, yes or not? it would depend on the kinds of event activities you want for the game, i think. nerfing to extremely basic magic wouldn't be too bad in my opinion. but i think in this context i think it's also important to nerf the tony starks, and make sure to clarify that in this game there aren't resources to make advanced machinery, so everyone is on a more similar page. when nerfing powers, many people forget that tons of characters still have very advanced but still natural abilities like combat and futuristic science. if you choose for a game where you want characters to be obliged to live a normal life, quiet and chill, then you could make it that they magically forget how to fight and how to create nuclear reactors, only leaving knowledge like basic medicine and baking.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-26 06:37 am (UTC)(link)pcs are sired in an act of 'vampire terrorism', turned despite the city's strict regulations and rules on turning. there's only so much blood/space to go around and now there's a population boom.
random thoughts:
- cap this early. don't end up in fellden's situation of too many players and too much wank over favouritism. 30 - 40 (at BEST) characters so everyone gets to do something. if there's a demand for more characters or player slots, give the players a choice of one or the other. not both.
- have a suitability/interests section in the app. explain why you think your character being aud into a vampire will be interesting and what you want to explore. no 'idk it seemed cool or lol i'll wing it' shit. mods can use this to get an idea of what players will want from the game and how to meet those needs.
- mods need npcs + factions for this game to work because it's a v:tm game BUT. limit either the number of npcs or the number of factions. i know i know variety of clans and 'what about x??!' will pop up but the mods have to juggle this + playing their own character + running the game. they need to scale back on something and this is the best (and most fun guaranteed for them) tbh.
- with that in mind: allow players to climb the ranks. fuck. allow the players to overthrow the npcs. let the, become leaders/significant people in their own right for fulfilling quests, helping other characters, and stuff. either through combat prowess or social engineering or political manipulation.
- every month or so, maybe every two months?, allow a couple of npcs/factions to doll out quests that require multiple or single-digit teams to complete. players are allowed to submit their own quests but need someone else involved.

(Anonymous) 2020-03-30 05:40 am (UTC)(link)also sadly yeah i want a chill always-open game but they never seem to last. i'm super bummed. things i'd look for though:
- banning known wankers with impunity
- no apps but "claims", or mini apps (like one paragraph) with more emphasis on samples, open all the time. either review daily or every 3 days or once a week depending on the size of the game. this way the bar can stay low but not might-as-well-not-even-be-there kinds of low.
- maybe assigned-at-"app" housemates or factions or something
- no AC but check-ins required
- duplicate characters, and obscure, "minor" characters, or AUs or CRAUs, or fandom OCs allowed because of that
- no caps so even squatting/activity lulls won't prevent someone else from apping in another version
- open to player-made events but once monthly mod-structured events should happen too to keep players engaged with the setting
- no network but a one-for-everything IC community
- maybe some kind of old school crack/meme/art side community for the game too?
personally i wouldn't care about power/ability caps, take em or leave em, but personally i do care a lot about game freedom and engagement. let my character start up a business, go adventure ~beyond the city walls~ or fight monsters, get their ass kicked by said monster, die and come back to life, whatever. don't tell me "you can't do this this or this or if you do this nothing exciting or interesting happens". tell me, "if you're interested in doing [thing] so many other things can come out of that, what direction would you like to go in?" i hate bloated faqs too so the more you can leave me to do things and make my own adventures the less i'll have to ask to make sure i'm not stepping on anyone's toes. i know other people really prefer a lot more guidance and that's okay too. freedom to make something fun come out of it either way is key, i think.
(i also don't want to play in a totally stagnant setting either where that freedom doesn't come without ic consequence and game changes but idk if that'll be as appropriate in a chill low stakes game!)
if not a jamjar, maybe something like everyone stays in their own worlds but shares a universal internet and can hop around through each other's canons or a shared dreamspace where everyone stays in their own worlds but when they sleep they all dream together might work well?

(Anonymous) 2020-03-30 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)actually i'd pretty much kill any one piece influence entirely because, hey, i respect you OP fans, but that's a very specific type of thing that i'm not down with, 100%
ANYWAY characters are brought to the world by a sea goddess based on an ancient prayer from a long dead civilization she only now just heard and only barely interpreted. everyone finds themselves in the central port city at first, though it's largely abandoned save for the few fae-like servants of the goddess who run the shops and work as shipwrights to build vessels for the characters.
characters are assigned to crews (no self-forming crews here, that shit just tends to lead to cliques and ooc competitiveness) and placed on ships and basically told "get out there and explore the islands of the great sea"
characters will have various islands to visit, each with different cultures and environments to interact with, but the plot itself will generally direct any plot-minded crews to specific points in the great sea at times.
i'm thinking varied fantasy elements here, but nothing that gets too surreal. think windwaker/suikoden iv combined with pirates of the caribbean/star-wars-except-its-boats.

orphan game for grabs
(Anonymous) 2020-04-07 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)so a year or so ago when i was in a situation where i had a lot of free time, i had an idea for a game that i finished most of the construction on, made an interest plurk for, and then promptly lost all my free time and had to abandon. i still really love this game idea and would love to play in it, but i don't think i have the time to mod, at least not to the extent i'd planned to. would anyone be interested in taking over?

(Anonymous) 2020-04-10 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)Characters arrive upon an abandoned island that’s basically floating in a void. There are no stars, sun, or moon, but instead it’s a wash of nebula throughout the sky.
There are five large stones upon the shore of this island called Sovereigns. A tablet exists in the center of these five stones, instructing the characters that if they restore all five Sovereigns’ power, they will be granted a method to their world or anyone else’s. The tablet does not instruct how they might restore their power.
The center of the island is filled with a dense forest. If characters explore it alone, they either wind up dead (if mun wants) or severely injured. Sometimes
it’s by an invisible force slicing through them at all angles, other times a monster, and more often than not it’s a vague exhaustion that overtakes a character, rendering them useless. These injuries take time to heal no matter how powerful your character is. To traverse the forest, characters must venture in together. There are mysteries to uncover within this forest and clues, and if some players are really into exploration and plot, I could write custom scenarios upon player requests.
Events would be based around the five Sovereigns, which have two events each to restore their power. Each Sovereign represents two things: one from the five stages of grieving, followed in the next month by an event based on one from Maslow’s five hierarchy of needs.
For example: restoring Sovereign no. 1 would first have an event based around denial in the opening month. The second month’s event would be based on physiological needs, maybe a reward of some sort depending on how the denial event went? Like replenishing food or water.
I’m not sure if I should have bad-event-then-good event, or if each event should have both bad and good scenarios.
I was also thinking that this could be a low-key sex-friendly game in some way if people would be interested? But I haven’t been able to come up with a good way to integrate a premise like that into the whole mysterious aesthetic.

(Anonymous) 2020-04-12 03:08 am (UTC)(link)Seeing the last comment on this thread reminded me of a dressing room/game idea I had been thinking of a while back. It's probably too late to make it now, but would anyone be interested in a game set in an interdimensional bar where characters can come in and out to get different jobs/quests or mingle with new people.
There's no overarching plot, it's just a bar with some quests you do (fight in a war, babysit a cat, protect an idol from kidnapping, etc.) and it can be assumed that characters are either the requester or the one taking the job. As for the locations, I'm thinking it's either characters can visit each other's worlds to fulfill the quest, or world-building where there are multiple cities or islands and the requests come from everywhere.
There would be no canon updates, and characters who are dropped and apped by someone else will be treated as a different timeline/universe. The idea is that characters freely come and go to the bar, so no one gets stuck there and they can leave whenever they want. The reason there are no canon updates is that any changes done to their world based on doing the quests will be their new canon. (Hence why dressing room seemed like a better idea than a game.)
Would anyone find this interesting?
