rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

I know this apparently makes me a terrible bitch, but I don't really see the problem with cliques. Not to the point of only tagging your choice handful of characters or players and ignoring any new CR or players, nothing that severe, but having a comfortable circle of players you're familiar with and characters you have enjoyable CR with and are looking forward to tagging again. And if someone else tags your post and the thread is boring or not going anywhere, bringing it to an early conclusion - or if they're insistent, dropping it. People have done the latter to me, and I don't hold grudges over it.

I'm not entirely sure where this idea that everybody has to tag absolutely everybody else no matter if they're interested in those characters or not came from.

ia. cliques happen, it's not like people wake up and go "oh shit, i'm gonna exclude people today". the whining about it sounds like a variation of the geek social fallacies.

No, you're not a terrible bitch. People tend to confuse the term "circle of close friends" with clique regularly around these parts. It's natural, particularly in games with 200+ people, to form a group that you feel comfortable in. I'm sorry but I graduated with 200+ people and fuck if I knew half their names. I saw people on graduation day for the first time that had apparently been at my highschool since freshman year. There's a difference between being a group of friends and being the RP equivilent of Mean Girls and I would say half the groups that are accused of being cliques are just groups.

Then again in nerdville we're all supposed to love one another equally because we're somehow better than those non-nerdy assholes that oppressed us in highschool or something.

I really miss my old circle. :( My new job made it so I'm always working or sleeping during the times we usually chat, so I've fallen away from them for the most part.

What you are speaking of isn't a clique. A clique is a small and exclusive group of people. Exclusive means they aren't playing with other players in the game.

Yeah, as others have said, that's not a clique.

Take that circle of players who are familiar with each other and like tagging together, and add a dynamic where they make fun of anyone who they don't like to tag with, who has different character preferences, or a different RP style. Mix with lots of thinly veiled PA hostility OOC to anyone who isn't in the group, and throw in a good dose of pointing and laughing behind people's backs.

That's a clique.
