rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

I contacted DW support about this because I was curious.

"It's become clear to us that this particular account, however, is not being moderated to remove material that is not inherently a violation of the Terms of Service but which, taken as a whole, creates a pattern of harassing behavior. We've given the owner of the account clear guidelines about what must be removed from the account going forward -- including screenshots of private or locked posts -- and we will take further action if it becomes necessary."

So rpanons is safe because anon discussion isn't inherently bad. ACJ isn't because most of its content is closer to harassment.

For the record, I've never received such a complaint from DW, at least not in my DW inbox. I don't have notifs for email.

I can't prove this without outing myself but the quote is genuine. My email tells me it came 7 hours ago.

Either they didn't send it yet or DW hasn't actually been handling support requests the way they claimed.

I really don't like the fact that they don't send out PMs for this. Of course I wouldn't use my "real" email for this, so if they did send me anything via email, I wouldn't get it. If I'm in violation of the TOS, I don't mind following the rules, but I'd like to hear it from the horse's mouth.

I don't have any huge problems with your comm but it's weird how DW support says one thing and does another.

Wasn't there a huge thread in one of the news posts where someone tried to get them to do something about anoncomms in general? IIRC the staff was pretty firm about not wanting to touch it unless there was offline harassment involved.

dw has always used the email on your account as the only way to contact you about your account, so if you can't read email that gets sent there you're kind of screwed

maybe you should, like, email them or something instead of running around and getting people to wank endlessly about shit? just a thought.

i contact dw for clarification about this comm a while back because lmao i'm paranoid and they said unless private info like numbers and addresses were posted, it's not breaking any rules. and even then they'd just request that specific reply to be deleted, not the comm. can't say i remember anything on their ts about private plurks but hey i haven't read it lately. private plurkers just need to stop their butthurt

Speaking as a former one of DW's volunteer staff, as far as I'm aware it's not actually against DW's rules to post the content of someone's private plurk (or facebook and other social network sites) as long as the person who is posting it has access and permission to view it. It only becomes an issue when it contains personal information (such as their identity as a person etc. which is used to harass or discriminate against the individual) or it was obtained via hacking of the account. It's outlined under sections VII, VIII, IX and in some cases X.

I do believe the responses in that plurk have been ill-informed and have twisted the information. It's even stated in the quote they used:

The screenshots of private or locked posts is in regards to those posted on Dreamwidth.

If you do believe that there's been a breach of privacy then instead of contacting the moderators of these communities please forward the URL to the DW staff and we will deal with it. Remember that when you give access for someone to view your private content then you must be wary of incidents like this possibly occuring. If you feel it has happened, then please contact us.

This is the most sensible thing said in this whole conversation. It's rational, reasonable, sober, and makes important distinctions which seem to otherwise be getting forgotten or ignored...and thus it will probably get wholly overlooked.

Thank you kind anon! I thought I would come and clarify things up a little! If people overlook it then that's all right, at the end of the day you choose how informed you want to be on a topic and I'm well aware of how many people on Plurk despite anon communities like this. If you choose to ignore the facts you run the risk of making a fool of yourself and wasting the volunteer staffs time, and that's what's important in all this to me.
