WHAT ANIME

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme. Your unfunny, forced memes also fall under this rule.
Do not treat this comm like your personal therapist. Threads about nonfictional suicide, self injury, rape, and abuse will be deleted. There are better resources out there for you.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.
Shut up about Tumblr. If it's not a discussion about Tumblr RP it will be deleted.

i think the wankgate anon who theorized that they're looking emphasize PvE and don't want that to get derailed by too much PvP, but if that's the case this is not the way way to go about it. if you want characters who'd otherwise fight and squabble to band together to work against a common evil, you have to give them a good reason to. slapping on a NO DISAGREEMENTS ALLOWED rule and thinking that's going to solve everything is pretty dumb.

This isn't the impression I had at all, though. I'm not saying the mods are going about this the right way, because I agree that the entire mechanic of having to literally drop and reapp if you break the rules IC is poorly thought out, and it definitely affected who I put on the TDM myself. But in my mind, having an IC rule like this would only add to the paranoia and tension, because characters would be forced to stifle their emotions, change their behavior, and operate under constant worry that acting out might be overheard and subsequently punished. I don't see that as the mods trying to force no (PvP) conflict ever on characters, I see it as a way to add more psychological stress on them in a game that is supposed to be about psychological stress. I'm frankly confused by how many people seem to think this rule is trying to make the game into a cuddlebox when, to me, it just seems like another source of tension.

That said, I absolutely think that the OOC punishment/drop-and-reapp aspect of things is very poorly thought out and needs adjusting. I just think they're two different issues.

the mods made a post explaining that they aren't making people drop and reapp. the characters are in a waiting period that's like a drop because they can't come back until the next app round

ia that this could be an interesting stressor on characters since the mods do mention there's going to be other consequences that they won't reveal yet so I guess whatever it is it'll stop characters from trying to break the rules (on top of just coming back to the hotel after a certain period of time anyway) not sure if the consequences will be revealed when the game opens or only after someone breaks a rule

It COULD be interesting if it weren't barring characters from the game for up to a month for getting into arguments. It's an unnecessary amount of time that prevents people from actually participating in the game.

Give IC consequences that allow people to still actually PLAY the game.

Image if a video game did that. You choose the villain path and the game locks you out for 3 weeks of real time for actions you took in game. That's what this is.

The issue to me was never the rule, only the consequence. They haven’t revealed what the actual IC consequence is yet so it might be a solid incentive to my character to obey the rules, but an OOC punishment of not getting to play in the game for X amount of time isn’t an incentive for my character to obey, it’s an incentive for me the player to play them as obeying the rules whether they would or not.

If you want a certain atmosphere, you have to take steps to create that atmosphere. Pointing at the players and saying “Play this as though that atmosphere exists” is just lazy.

It's a huge disappointment to me, because I'd love a game that forces my character to rein himself in or deal with unpleasant consequences if he doesn't. But playing out the consequences is a massive part of the appeal, so they actually have to be consequences that can be played. "Don't play" is the literal polar opposite of that.

Please, toss my character in jail temporarily or give him janitorial duty for mouthing off, he could use that. Don't remove my ability to play my character in the game for anywhere up to a month.
