So far I'm thinking that the Network would be a special cell phone that can be used for two-way walkie talkies, but the Internet has two options: Vine and the Moms Of Midwich Elementary Facebook Group.

I don't think there will be new NPC posts, but I should probably come up with some deeply creepy old ones...

unsure about the vine instead of a video-call function, but creepy posts sound perfect.

how would ac be? would there be any bonus boons?

and about the survival aspect, would it just be supplies or would there be a river nearby they could use and things they could hunt (thinking about The Last of Us as a possible influence, too, for this survival part).

Right now I'm thinking AC would be a minimum of 2 threads a month, with at least one required to be in the Nightmare level, even if they're running away or otherwise not engaging with the creature.

I'm not sure about bonus boons! I'm not sure what would be useful but not gamebreaky in an SH setting.

As for supplies, they definitely have Toluca Lake nearby where they could get water. And there are woods, so they will probably be able to hunt deer or rabbits. The question is: does the nightmare level fuck with the local fauna? Since we've killed all their natural predators, if the nightmare creatures don't attack animals, the deer population should be able to support a small settlement, if they don't overhunt.

yeah! I think having the voice/video/text functions on the phone would leave all doors open to how people prefer to play and, personally, i think thats cool

two threads as in being the OP or "participating" in two threads regardless of comment number? and i think that works!

i think for boons to exist there would have to be some place for characters to get things that they might need/want. if there are no npc's (like a... god overlord of whatever along those lines), that might be harder to do, but there might be instructions left about how to go to x place and do x thing to get these boons (IC), while OOC, the boons they could get can maybe be... more supplies or a special medical item that they might need and that might be harder to find through scavenging, or more ammo or something like that.

and that works! though it might be a good idea to grab a rough map of the place so people unfamiliar with the games know the gist of the place that they are in (or make your own map, if you want to add more stuff). and you can always say that more places might show up as the game progresses and more things happen. i think all that for hunting works too! maybe during nightmare levels its harder to find food/things to hunt, but still possible. maybe during nightmare levels the water for the river is contaminated too, and characters need to boil it to be able to drink it or they will get sick (as time passes and characters learn more about their surroundings, maybe some will even spend a good chunk of "normal" time preparing for when "nightmare" time comes, but storing up on food and meds and "good" water).

I'm torn on being the OP. I think I'd just require substantial participation -- three to five comments per thread. Starting new threads would probably qualify for bonus points.

And yes, I think bonus stuff would be instructions on how to find helpful objects (or the occasional helpful NPC).

All water will need to be strained and boiled, whether it's gathered in the Nightmare or the Daytime levels. I mean, unless y'all want a quest where somebody (or everybody) gets giardia and have to find anti-parasitics. (Hint: try the feed store, not the local pharmacy. Actually, feed stores are excellent places to find water treatment supplies, antiparasitics, antibiotics and even some vaccines.)

yeah, i think that's the best way to go about it, since a lot of people will be participating instead of starting new threads.

that definitely works (and that could be really interesting for future plans, too)!

and... yes. just. yes. on everything. water always having to be boiled regardless of levels sounds perfect and just yes on quests (and on everything this hint points at).

i think what would be cool about the phones is that you can mess with the reception if you want
during nightmare/nighttime events maybe certain places or monsters create interference which could disrupt calls or make messages glitch
that sort of thing
there's a lot of potential for suspense there

i love this! characters trying to communicate and sometimes there's static, or their sentences get cut and it's like they say something *else* that they didn't actually say before continuing and all sorts of possibly glitches texts and such and even weird stuff on video calls! maybe make it optional for players to decide if their characters are in an area that gets affected or not (since some might just want to communicate normally in the network), but making this a possibility sounds awesome!
